Paul Millsap

Channing Frye
Kendall Marshall

Why for the Jazz:

Millsap is going to command a lot of money this offseason. This trade will help give the Jazz a solid 3rd Big that can stretch the court in Frye and a good young point guard to groom for the future. Frye would pair well with Kanter in the second unit. The Jazz also would rid themselves of Raja Bell.

Why for Pheonix:

This deal will help them get out of Frye's contract and also give them a player who fits their offense perfectly. Millsap can run the court and would help open things up for Gortat.

Welcome to the Board. Most on this board know how much I like Marshall, and gives Favors a chance to start. There have been worse trade idea's. Would love to see Favors in pick'n roll with Marshall, but tell me if I'm wrong, weren't there reports that the jazz weren't high on Marshall.
 
Doubt Phoenix would do it.. they already have Scola who plays the same position as Millsap.

Also doubt Marshall would be a good fit with his lack of 3pt shooting.. he's good in the open court for our bigs, but if opponents don't turn it over, or sag off of him and he can't shoot that 3's, I think it'll be difficult to start him.

Just my 2 cents.

Andre Miller can't shoot threes to save his life, and he's been a very good pg throughout his career. He doesn't have to be a knock down 3 shooter just good enough to keep defenses honest. If Kid came in as a bad 3 shooter, but improved. I think after the improvement Marshall showed from two years ago to last year, there's no reason to believe he won't continue improve.
 
So Phoenix is trading away two lottery picks for a couple of garbage men and a player who leaves at the end of the season, Or, they end up throwing the Brinks truck at Paul and have a long-term commitment to an undersized PF who will never be a "go-to" guy. Delete Marshall and Phoenix might consider the trade. A high first-rounder for getting rid of Frye's contract sounds fair. In that case, I'd insist on having the pick only top-3 protected.
 
Also the lack of a 3 shot doesn't mean a guy can't do well as a pg. It's an ignorant statement to say he won't fit in with out a 3 shot on the jazz. NC was a much better team with then without him. Why would he fit in in NC, and not the Jazz.
 
Phoenix plays Sebastian Telfair in front of Marshall, I don't think they are all that attached to him.

I wouldn't do this trade, but I don't see why Phoenix wouldn't. Millsap is better than any player they have and this would give them a better chance to re-sign him when the time comes. They will be within the top 10 for this draft, so they aren't losing a pick or anything in the immediate future.
 
If it was F'Al and we knew Frye would be healthy at some point, I'd strongly consider doing it. We'd get a big back who demands less playing time than F'Al (about 25 minutes a game) and would be insurance as a potential 3rd big if God forbid Millsap walked this summer. We'd also possibly get the point guard of our future which we've been craving. We'd possibly get another 1st round pick this coming draft which would possibly give us three. And most importantly, we'd be rid of the sieve known as F'Al.
 
Just to clarify, the "UK" in my username stands for United Kingdom rather than U of Kentucky.

FWIW, I sent this idea to Locke and twitter and he shot me down pretty quick. In his opinion, both teams say no. He said the deal breaker for Pheonix would be the draft pick. From the Jazz's perspective, he said that the Jazz say no because of Frye's injury. I think it was more his opinion rather than anything he heard from the organization, but he said that Marshall will not be a starting level point guard in the league.

Although this specific deal may not work, I think that trading for a serviceable backup big, a good point guard and/or draft picks is what they Jazz would look for in a deal for Paul Millsap.

I agree to a degree, but wouldn't this fly in the face of all the hullabaloo about improving our outside shooting? Seems to run counter to our fundamental and expressed talent strategy......
 
Millsap is the last person to trade in this team, only way i would be ok with his departure is that he asks for an expensive contract, otherwise this guy is supposed to retire his uniform in energy solutions
