Hornacek and Hayward comparison

Hmm, although Hayward and Hornacek are different types of players, they stats are pretty similar. It would be good if Hayward develops into a Hornacek-like player, especially if we consider he's much longer and better on the fast breaks and in the paint.

Hornacek (2nd and 3rd season)
Season Age G GS MP FG% 3P% FT% TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
1987-88 24 82 49 27.4 .506 .293 .822 3.2 6.6 1.3 0.1 1.9 1.8 9.5
1988-89 25 78 73 31.9 .495 .333 .826 3.4 6.0 1.7 0.1 1.4 2.4 13.5

Hayward (2nd and 3rd season for now)

2011-12 21 66 58 30.5 .456 .346 .832 3.5 3.1 0.8 0.6 1.6 1.6 11.8

For as good of a 3-pointer as we remember Hornacek being, his percentages for those early seasons in his career weren't great.

Probably more attributed to adjusting to the NBA 3pt-line than shooting woes. Hornacek's FG%'s were at their customary abnormally high levels (anti-CJ-esque).

Don't really like the Hornacek-Hayward comparisons as their game's aren't really similar.

Right, the stats don't even tell half the story. Hornacek was a guy who you had to worry about every single time The Jazz were on offense. You couldn't sag off of him on defense to help, you had to stay home on pick and rolls, you had to rotate fast out on the perimeter. Even if he only scored 9 or 10 points in a game he could change the other team's defensive mind set.

LOL - do you think Garnett would have ever in a million years backed off Hornacek and dared him to shoot a jumper - no way in hell. Hornacek would have drained that shot 100 times out of a 100.

Hayward is getting better and he's going to be solid. But unless he's on fire, the opposing team isn't particularly worried about him. He's just not there yet.

Keep in mind that in Hornacek's 2nd and 3rd seasons he was 24 and 25 yrs old. Hayward still has to age 2-3 more years just to be the same age as horny was in he 2nd/3rd seasons.

Anyone who compares the two obviously never watched them.

The league doesn't have anyone very comparable. If I could think of someone though it would probably be Jason Terry in the way that he can play the 1-2, is deadly from all over the court, and can get off some pretty crazy off balanced shots. I remember Hornacek making some unbelievable circus shots, wrong hand, wrong foot, wrong everything, back in his day.

I want to make a bet. Ill bet Corbin coaches the Jazz for at least five more years. Regardless of how the team performs.
