Silent Retreat/Prayer intentions.

Hey everybody,

I am about to go on a silent retreat (Monday - Friday, but I'm praying for a dispensation during the N.D./Alabama game :) ). The seminarians studying at Mount Angel Seminary are required to spend about a week in silence and reflection. The silent retreat consists of community prayer and conferences (guest speakers - we just sit and listen), however, there is ample time for silent prayer and reflection.

I would love to pray for any of your prayer intentions (private and/or public) that you might have. If you would like me to pray for you, please either post in this thread or send me a private message by Sunday night. I will not be checking my computer from Monday morning to about Friday evening.

I know not everyone here believes in God or practices the Catholic faith. And I would love to pray for your intentions (as long as they are moral) regardless of your faith. I am making this gesture as an act of good will, and I hope I don't get flamed to hard on this message board.

Thank you and God Bless,

Stephen

whom should we be cheering for by proxy in the ND/Bama game? My guess would be the ND, but confirmation would be nice.

Enjoy the peace.

by the way, a point of clarification - how do you "conference" at a silent retreat?

Can you pray for World Peace....

He has been kinda slumping the past couple of games and he's on my Fantasy team!!!

LOL... in the spirit of this post I will pray for both world peace and the mentally ill. ;)

I'm glad you took that in jest... Was nervous to post it didn't want to come off insensitive, but didn't want to pass up a great opportunity...

Seriously though pray for Africa... Way too much injustice going on there!!!

It's on the list, thank you. It's amazing how many social justice issues can be found in Africa at the moment. The human exploitation that is happening in that continent is frightening :( .

I'm in Africa like every other year and its hard not to just break down in depression... Such great people that live there!!!

When I'm there I always try to do something even if its small. You know the whole starfish mentality!!

Your school has a monastery? The best Christian books are easily the ones written by monastics. I could never be a monastic, but I'll be damned if those guys aren't near at the top of the holy chain of all of us sinners. I'm just thankful that some people go that route and then write about it so cretins like me can read their works. They get God. At least the legit ones.

Mount Angel Seminary is run by Mount Angel Abbey (which is a community of Benedictine monks). Utah and most of the Dioceses west of Utah send their seminarians in part to Mount Angel (There are two other major seminaries in California). I'm finishing up my fourth (and possibly final) year at Mount Angel Seminary and I have learned quite a bit from the "holy monks on the hill," however, I agree with you, Duck, I could never be monastic :) . I do respect them, but I prefer the spiritual life found in the local parishes.

Since you're going to pray for everyone and their dog during your reflective sessions, I prayed for you to get to watch the Notre Dame game tonight. So when you get back, please let me know how much pull our combo prayers have with God on the matter.

That is cool Whisky. Enjoy the time on reflection and whatever you feel you need to meditate/think on.

Also Mount Angel is in a set of books I have been reading. Good place to be, you guys survive the apocalypse.
