Paul George Makes Allstar Team, Hayward, Not So Much

I booed Hayward when he got drafted. Not because I didn't think he could play in the league, but because Paul George was clearly a better pick. Paul George getting an Allstar nod makes me want to boo all over again.

When you adjust for playing time, the only thing George has on Gordon is rebounds. Which, of course, is a team stat, and has little to do with individual effort and ability.

George being an All-Star has more to do with a dearth of talent in the East than him actually being an elite player.

Oh, and they're both 22. Back in my day, players used to start their NBA careers at that age, but yes, let's make knee jerk reactions.

I'll go out on a limb here as a vocal supporter of both players:

At this point in their careers, Hay can pass George statistically and on global impact on the game IF HE'S GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO. Compared to the license George has, Hay is basically driving with his mom in the passenger seat.

Give him the damn ball and sit Earl.

George's all star resume isn't that great. < 17 on 42% shooting. Yes he rebounds a lot more but he shoots thr same from the field but worse from 3. He also gets ten more minutes a game than G time and likely a lot more shots, though I don't know that stat offhand. He wouldn't even sniff all star in the west.. Like not even close.

I was crazy insane when the Jazz picked Hayward. I was so upset I refused to spell Hayward's name correctly for the first year. I repeatedly said I would choose anyone from through pick 15 over Hayward. I specifically wanted Paul George and Larry Sanders and made a complete fool of myself everyday. I honestly believed that Hayward was going to suck on defense because his lateral movement score was lower than I thought it should be.

While I still really like Paul George and Larry Sanders I also really like Hayward. Sometimes hes aggressive and sometimes he is too passive on offense, but he always hustles. Every time he chases a guy down from behind and blocks a shot at the rim I am reminded that I was wrong to hate the pick with a vengence. Hayward changed my mind and those people that still hate on Hayward are just idiots.

I like Paul George and wanted to draft him in 2010 because he is a unique athlete with potential offensively and defensively, but Gordon Hayward is a more unique player overall and has every bit as much ability to impact the game, or more. George getting in the ASG is also a reflection of the lack of depth in the East right now. I don't really think George impacts the game any more than a player like, say, Wes Matthews or Nicolas Batum. George isn't a better player than Iguodala or Gay, two players who were not even really considered for the ASG.

Yes oldtimer, we are all abundantly clear you thought Hayward would fail because he didn't run in between the little cone thingies fast enough.

Hayward didn't make the all star game due to racialism

hayward is a more versatile, complete player, imo. paul george is what people expected mawill to be. add kanter and favors to the list, we have three young studs with all-star potential damned to the bench and getting screwed night in, night out. i hate corbin and our front office for that. we are one of the only basketball organizations that does not care about the youth: we have two 3rd picks that get 10-15 minutes per game? for real? we are number one in wasting young talents!

I really liked the Hayward pick then and still do. Paul George is great too, but Hayward, imo, has a higher bball IQ. Hayward is a great defender, but George might even be better. Hayward's in Utah, Paul George is in Indiana, therefore Hayward is better. It really is that simple.

Yeah....good point.
Paul George is what Marvin Williams should've been.

The funny thing about this is George would be getting a lot less shots and prob less time per game if it wasn't for Granger being out up until this point. Sometimes you just get lucky. George has made the most out of his chance though.

LOL.. I see.. so HeavenHarris is your alt afterall...

Nope, i dont have any alts, but i always laughed when HH would talk about "racialism"

all that i gather from looking at this is that george shoots alot.... holy crap he shoots like every time he touches it... except fpr the 3.7 times he passses it.

One of them plays 37 minutes a game and the other one 27. Hell, no one on the Jazz plays close to what George does. Al is just under 33 MPG.

true i was just looking at stats... i think hayward us much more effeccient then george... george just shoots alot..

Thats the outcome of giving consistent minutes, showing trust to your promising young player and being part of a good team. They had to pick one from Indiana and they made their choice on him. And if you are a small forward in the NBA its way easier than other positions to be an allstar. Its like a diamond in the rough in todays NBA.

If Hayward transform his body and playing style (more pysical) to a SF i say why not. His only competitors seems like Igodala, Batum.. and when you look at West All Star roster there is no true SF beside Durant. That spot is that weak as you can see. Its not utopic to happen IMO.
