Can Ersan Ilyasova play/defend SF? (Millsap)

I've been trying to research Ersan's defensive abilities but cant find anything regarding him playing SF. He seems like an ideal stretch 4 but with our excess bigs, would he be able to guard SFs? Remember that line-up of Al-Favors-Paul the end of last season & how good we were but the only problem was Paul's inability to stretch the floor. I'm assuming that Paul's lateral quickness is better than Ersan's but how about his ability to put the ball on the floor? Ersan's contract would be less than whatever Paul is going to get & I think he seems to be a better fit because of his versatility.

We get a versatile forward & a quality pg in Chalmers. This allows us to walk away from re-signing Mo & draft a PG (Smart or Burke) w/ Chalmers handcuffing him...

Ilyasova posts here from time to time, though I doubt he'd give a completely honest answer on his own defensive abilities.

Chalmers
Hayward
Ilyasova
Kanter
Favors

BIG line up, but whats to do with AL

Ilyasova is a great player, but he is playing with a bunch of chuckers. Jennings and Ellis are the badest guards I have ever seen.

Ersan can put it on the floor but not on a SF level. He is more like reliable spot up shooter and when he knocks down his shots he is a lot more dangerous post up player. He is not a low post thread. He is a great team deffense player, if im not mistaken he is #1 or 2 on taking charges in NBA right now. He may not be an around the rim deffender (Sanders complements him on that one) but he got active and long hands, he goes for steals and loose balls.. a hustler briefly on deffensive end. They're not trying him on SF cause they have a guy who can play multiple positions like Moute. But he got quick feets, he is playing against smaller guys against the teams that play small ball and frankly he is doing a good job on that.

Apart from these he is a good passer for a big, unselfish player, he is choosing his shots and letting the game comes to him (hope for the best at least with a backcourt of Monta and Jennings). And when his confidence level is high he is a consistent player.

Ilyasova is a stretch PF who can play the SF for limited time (He played SF in his rookie year)and his lateral quickness is not good enough for defending the most of SFs so big line up does not work for him but still he's exactly good fit for Jazz to make the open 3's, perfect PnR and Pick and pop player, good rebounder, hard nosed, hustle player who takes charges and unselfish team oriented team mate.

I actually think he would be great in a big line up for 5 to 10 minutes a game. If you have Hayward, Favors and Kanter as 3 of the other 4 besides Ilyasova, that is a defensive line up that can hide his lateral deficiencies.

Name me ten guys in the NBA that can.

ok, how worse would he be compared to Marvin guarding them.

Seriously???? You guys think Marvin is a bad defender? Get your eyes checked.
Here, yesterday Marvin gaurding Batum-
Batum- 5 points, 3 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 TO's, 2-7 in 38 minutes.

The opponent SF's PER is 13.7 when gaurded by Marvin. The average PER of the top 50 SF's is 15.04.
When Marvin's on the court, the Jazz are 3 points better defensively. (106.3 vs. 109.7)

He may be invisible, but he's a stellar defender.

For 5 to 10 min in a game lots of stretch 4's can play SF but he's not a SF and does not have quickness advantage to make dribble or chance to work on perimeter with his ball handling against SFs. His big advantage is none of PFs can chase him after the screens on the perimeter so he can shoot over any where on the court when his feet set or move to the rim that's why he's so efficient on PnR or PnP. Also his second jump is so faster than most of PFs so his offensive rebounding is key for him to find some easy points.

actually I like this trade. illyosava would be a great addition to this team. I see him more of a sf who can play the 4. Hayward would need to shift to sg. and burks foye, Marvin and kanter become the bench. I could live with that.

if the jazz could do this with out giving up a draft pick. draft the best pg and the a big I would be ecstatic.
