I've had 7 Mercedes and no problems with any of them. Not saying that means anything though..
Exactly what I didn't want, but expected, to hear.
My old man is unbelievably car-saavy. He sometime hypothesizes that cars in the 90s don't break down these days as much as they do now. In other words, finding an ol' Merc 190E with 80K miles will be indestructible in the long-run, in comparison to finding a 2001 C240 selling for $5000, with 110K. I am not sure to what extent this is true.
My family has gone through plenty of cars. We have awful history with older Audis. Fords are easy to repair, and cheap. There was a Volvo 240 somewhere in the mix that never broke. My brother's Prelude was a lemon. We have a Subaru forester with 300K on it. My brother drives a BMW 330CI.
My baby, up until now, has been the most problem-free car I think anyone in our family has ever had. The dealer always ranted and raved about how well the mid-90s C-classes were made. Not sure if you've heard the same, Mr. Eric.
So I wanna say that the Benz's are badass, but as you said, I probably just got lucky. Do you have any horror stories with Mercdes-Benz? I'd love to hear them, if possible.
I'll check out the Amanti. I'll be honest, I'm kind of a prick, and picky with things like brands and stuff. Kia is not usually my cup of tea, but I will swallow my pride and search some up. My wallet >> my pride, I know.

I'm a big fan of cars from the 80's and 90's. Much simpler mechanics, less electronics, less computer control. That's why they are more reliable. My problem with the luxury imports is just the cost of repairs. I'm always blown away when I have to order parts for them. And they are a bigger pain to work on. Just my (professional) opinion. Take it for what it's worth (90$/hr.)
So when we do replace my husband's Mazda (hopefully this year...we are saving up to pay cash), we were thinking of maybe adding Volvo to the list. Maybe we should avoid those imports though. Would look for a smallish suv or midsized sedan we can fit 3 kids in. Were thinking Hyundai, Toyota, Subaru, Honda, Mazda. Any advice? Thanks.
Umm wtf?
Is Mo a Moe?
I am female. My husband is male. Certainly not a secret.Been called Mo at least half my life.

The hyundai santa fe is a great small suv. As is the hyundai tucson. Stay away from the kia sorento and sedona. As far as sedans check out the hyundai sonata and kia optima. Toyota, honda, and subaru are all nice and reliable, but you're gonna pay more for pretty much the same thing. Unless you need AWD, then the subaru is worth the extra $.
What kind of men are you?
Needing cars to pick up on chicks?
Here's an idea, get a Golds Gym membership, work out, get into shape, and grow the balls to actually ask girls out. It really isn't that hard.
Real men don't need capris pants, Nike shoes, or cool cars to pick up on chicks.
Best car I've ever owned? 2002 Toyota Camry. In the 4 years I've owned it I have only had to replace the battery and spark plugs. Find yourself a good Toyota and you'll be fine.
Thanks for the advice. We really like the Sonata & Santa Fe. Hubby would prefer AWD so we like Subaru too, but it'll depend on what's out there when we have the cash.
Such gentlemen here. I'll be sure to tell your women how lucky they are to have you.
Not many women on this forum are there? I'm probably a bigger Jazz fan than my husband is...he loves the Jazz but prefers football. Me, I like college football (Utes!), but I can take or leave the NFL.
To my knowledge, there are now 3 1/2 women on this message board.
Good to have ya, Mo the Moe.
Thanks. How ya figure 1/2? Wait....don't answer that.
Not you silly. You're all Moe as far as I'm concerned.
I think she figured that, cuke breath.. I think she was not wanting to know the explanation of the 'other' 1/2.

NOBODY calls me cuke breath.
Don't tell Mo what she thinks bro.
Capri pants and nike shoes?? LOL
That might have impressed women back in the 4th grade.
In all seriousness, I couldn't give a rat's *** as to what a woman thinks of my car. It's more of a materialistic thing for me. I like surrounding myself with quality things, whether its clothing, kitchen utensils, or in this case automobiles. We are all made different. Unfortunately, its hard being materialistic with just 5000 dollars but hey, go figure.
Thank you to those who have contributed.
