OFFICIAL: Trade Deadline Thread

Realistically, what would be the best case scenario for this offseason? I'm not being facetious, just genuinely curious what some of you who are so excited about the cap space are thinking.

This cap space stuff the Jazz are selling isn't what you think it is. We'll probably re-sign Al, bring in a low level pg, and thats about it.

realistically. I don't mean this as a stupid question, I honestly want to know what those who are excited about the space we have see it doing.

I know, but yeah the free agent market for the PG position is not very good after Paul. We have a better chance of winning 10 championships in a row than getting him. Best unrestricted are Calderon, Jack, and Udrih. I wonder if there is any chance we may not make an offer to Brandon Jennings (restricted)

I'd have rather given up Hayward and Millsap for Bledsoe than offer 8-10 mil to a guy like Jennings. Yuck.

Listening to Lindsey now.. seems like our draft positions at 18th and 19th (currently) played some parts in their decision on not going ahead with some trades.

They must have some confidence on those picks to not give up those picks for Bledsoe (if that is in fact the case).

Are you saying they could've acquired Bledsoe for picks and Millsap only?

Noo... he didn't mention the Bledsoe trade thing.

He just touched on the fact that when they were making the decision whether to go ahead with trades, they look at who they could potentially get from the draft at #18 and #19 and what players and what positions they can fill with that.

He also mentioned they did that around a poker table. Whatever that means.

Frankly I'm concerned that they think they're going to get anything more than backups at that slot. Based on track record, it's not likely.

He said he felt good about our drafts as well as the upcoming FA period.

May be he's just being generic though.

He's also saying regarding trading that there's a distinction between: Volume trader VS Value trader.

Our position is we're a small market team, so we're "value trader" as it's hard to correct bad decisions.

I wonder if Houston is considered a value trader or volume trader to him.

Betting on late 1st rounders is a quick way to lose your shirt.

All I mean is that looking at something like who you think will be available there (which is total BS since you don't know until the tournament) and basing trade decisions off of that is ridiculous. Even more so considering that we have basically only drafted one or two relevant players in the past 10 years.

Well Houston is 4th largest market right, so they're definitely volume trader. I think that's a direct shot at anyone questioning KOC in light of what Morey just did with Harden, Robinson, etc.

But in the New NBA landscape, those 1st rounders are pretty valuable. Nobody else traded a 1st today. And those 1sts with the Jazz's cap space could make the Jazz active on draft day....(I just realized I am already falling into the 'next time' trap-Crap).

I don't think that's a problem with KOC & Lindsey. Both guys pride themselves on developing young talents. KOC with the 47th pick thing. Lindsey with the Spurs, Ginobili and Tony Parker thing.

They just don't look at the position, they look at opportunities to develop un-tapped talent.

I am disappointed that the jazz did not make a trade, but I think Lindsay has a good head on his shoulders. I think we will be pretty happy with his work in a couple years. Remember what Kevin OC said about Hayward when he was drafted. I think most of us like Hayward pretty well now. Dude is ballin.
