Explain the Monroe Love

Why is everyone so high on Monroe?

He can pass.
He can make a jumpshot.

He is a poor post player that can only finish left handshot.
He is an average rebounder.
He is a poor shotblocker.
He is a poor to average athlete.

His standing reach is equal to Carlos Boozer's. Making him a poor center and an average sized power forward.

He is not the kind of player that can help us beat the Lakers. He isn't big enough for Gasol and Bynum. He is too slow for Odom.

What am I missing about this player?

Here's what you are missing. The Jazz have the 9th pick in a very weak draft. It's not like the Jazz can magically make the players in the draft better. Who do you like at number 9?

If he catches every break possible, he'll become a poor man's Channing Frye. It doesn't get any more exciting than that.

I think people see him as a good value @ 9, and a cheap replacement for Boozer.
He is not the answer for the Lakers no, but would make our PF spot more secure with the loss of Boozer.
Sap and Monroe together would solidify the 4 spot for us, with more money to go after a center when AK leaves.

If we take a long look at Whiteside, Udoh, and Aldrich and don't think they are the answer Monroe is a quality pick at #9.

I guess I see Henry, Aminu or Babbit all being better pros. I am also am leaning towards taking a chance on someone with bigtime potential- Whiteside or Aminu or whoever.

Because David Locke and the rest of 1320 praise him constantly.

He also seems like a classy guy.

I personally think Monroe is going to suck in the NBA. The Jazz should perhaps consider trading down for 2 draft picks if Monroe truly is the best player available at #9.

Monroe reminds me a lot of Jared Jeffries, and we all know how terrible he's been.

Monroe would be okay with me if we had a non-lottery pick but we have the ninth pick. I don't like the fact that this guy barely gets off the floor (rarely dunks at 6'10) and doesn't get many blocks on the defensive end. He also has a very limited post-game. He'll improve, yes.. but I wouldn't get him at #9. He's a project player IMO.. gonna be a few years before he sees any substantial minutes on the floor. Unfortunately for the Jazz, this was not the year to fall out of the top 5 in the draft order because after that the quality of players drops big time.

I don't think I'd be disappointed in Monroe. I think Udoh will be a comparable pro, and more along the lines of what the Jazz would like more.

Everyone is high on him (AROUND THE LEAGUE NOT JUST THE JAZZ) because it is EXTREMELY rare to see a guy that big that has passing, shooting, dribbling skills that this guy has. Like others have said that makes him a commodity especially in a draft as weak as this one is.

He is Chris Webber like with his passing. This is why Locke thinks he would rack up Triple Doubles in the Jazz's offense.
