I understand that saying things like "don't be a *****" reflects inherent sexist mentality in our society, and I think starting a separate thread to discuss it is appropriate. Jumping one someone for using a common idiom in a completely unrelated context is, however, a dick move.

Why the hell aren't you defending my genitals? Why does "dick" have to mean rude or angry? My ***** is very patient and kind and I would like you to fight for its rights!!

People use sexual terms negatively because of the sexual repression that is ingrained in most cultures since the advent of agriculture. The use of sexist terms, like calling women "bitches", is just a symptom of growing acceptance of the gender equality movement. People, specially the youth, will typically gravitate toward the faux-pas. It is no coincidence that the use of the word "gay" as an insult exploded among young people in the past 2-3 decades. It is because homosexuality started becoming accepted. You're just over-reacting to a thoughtless comment and making it into something far more significant than it is.
