What's new

Next years roster predictions

Do people honestly believe Kanter and Favors will be starting next year? Think back to last year -- did anyone think Kanter would be averaging 15.5 minutes this year? How about Favors playing 22.5 minutes this year? Or Burks 18 minutes and acquiring 16 or more DNPs long, long before the all-star break, and only really be averaging 18 minutes because people got injured? What the hell gives anyone reason to believe next year they'll start? If we pick up Kurt Thomas and Elton Brand, they will start.

Umm....yes?

I guarantee Favors will be starting next year. I think there's a really good chance Kanter is, too.

Could be, but I would be very disappointed if Korver was starting at the 2 ahead of both Hayward and Burks.

Here is my take...

We trade our 2nd round pick this year and the one we got from the Nets for I think 2015 draft for Pau Gasol!!

Then we draft best PG available (Burke/MC-W) with our first pick and best available player with our second pick!!

Next we sign Jose Calderon for 2yr 15M contract
Then sign Korver for 2yr 7m contract
Next sign Carrol 3yr 14M

Roster looks like this...

Calderon/Burks/rookie pg
Korver/Burks/Murphy
Hayward/Carrol/Marv
Favors/Marv/Evans
Gasol/Kanter

With another rookie some where in there!!

Burks comes in for Korver at the 6 minute mark
Then Carrol and Kanter comes in for Pau and Jose at 9minute mark!!

Then at the 2minute mark in the 2nd quarter Hayward and Favors come out and rookie guard and Marv come in for 6 minutes then go back to starting line up except leave in burks for Korver!!

Could be, but I would be very disappointed if Korver was starting at the 2 ahead of both Hayward and Burks.

I say Korver starts so that burks gets pg and SG minutes, plus burks and Kanter will be able to carry the second unit!!

It's the Ginobli argument

yeah, pretty sure Favors will start. There is no reason he shouldn't. Kanter will, at the very least, get the minutes that Favors is getting this year off the bench. I think he will probably be averaging closer to 30 minutes, but thats if he doesnt do anything crazy this offseason

This is what I don't get. Kanter is the better overall player, and a lot better offensively than Favors...yet everyone assumes Favors starts over Kanter.

A bunch of Corbin's around here.

I don't think it is fair to Favors if you start KAnter over him right now. That might not bode well long term. I guess it would be more ok next season.

If Glenn Robinson the 3rd declares, The Jazz should draft him. He could end up being the best player in the draft.

That's debatable that Kanter is the better player. Favors Defense is going to be one of the best in the league when he gets minutes. Kanter will never be able to touch Favors defensive ability. Granted, Kanter probably has more offensive skill already, but Favors can go off on offense too, and he is pretty consistent. The only reason we all notice Kanter's offensive ability more is because he is flashy, and has these big games. Favors offensive game is put backs and free throws. He is not the type of player right now that you run an offense around, but that does not mean he doesn't get the job done offensively. I think he will end up scoring about 16 ppg, and Kanter will end up scoring near 20. That is a big difference, but not that big when you account for the defensive contribution that Favors puts out. We have two really, really good young big men. It is unfair to say that either is better than the other, but if they are going to start one over the other, Favors is the deserving and ready one, as he has been here a year longer and was wayyyyy more nba ready in his first year than kanter. Kanter has made huge strides that should be rewarded, however.

In writing this, I guess I am realizing that they both need to start, and if they don't, then our coaches are idiots. They need to start even right now, over Jefferturd and Millsap. both the vets are preoccupied and ready to get outta town.

Ty Corbin? You proved my point.

I think B_Liner1's post supports the idea that Kanter is not yet significantly better than Favors to where you should stary Kanter over Favors, which is why it would be unfair.

B - Favors has never had a 20-20. Favors has never had shooting games like Kanter has had. Kanter is better offensively, is a better passer, shooter, rebounder, etc. the only thing Favors is better at is help defense and dunking.

Favors is a very, very nice player. He has potential to be an elite defender and a better Chandler.

Kanter is a special player. He has Hall of Fame potential. He puts up numbers only players like Shaquille have done at similar points in their careers.

To start Favors over Kanter, having seen their games, their potential, and the work effort, is unfair to Kanter. Kanter is the better overall player, does more to help this team and has more potential.

But all you Corbin's think that because Favors has been here longer he should start. Is t that what we are all complaining about now with Corbin?

Favors had a 23-15 and did not play a single minute in the 4th quarter. Favors' defense is far superior to Kanter's and right now I'd say Favors is better than Kanter. Frankly I don't care. They should both be starting right now and they have games that should mesh well.
.
Kanter is not a better passer. Favors is our best out of the post passer on the team. Kanter is the better offensive player. If all you look at is offense then you would be correct. Favors changes the game more with his defense than Kanter does on offense.

The Defense of Derrick Favors changes a basketball game. Favors defense changes the way teams play the Jazz. When he is on the floor he blocks and alters a ton of shots. Also, Favors would have had a 20 20 game had corbin played him in the 4th and OT against the Bucks. Love Kanter, but too early this season to start him or Favors.

The Kanter and Favors debate is not legitim.

Both are completely different players. One will be elite on offense and the other on defense. But both will also get the job on the other end.

I see them both making some All-Star teams. Hell, I even see HOF potential in both of them.

I might be biased but I like Kanter more since he looks more skilled and looks more like a complete player. I think both have good work ethic but Kanter seems to be elite on that. The transformatiom of his body, his improved game and much improved athletic ability are off the charts. I do think that he has a higher upside than Favors. His motor is also something that sets him appart. But you could also argue for Favors.

Right now, I don't think you can say that the one or other player is better. We might have some information now to talk about who might have better potential/upside but other statements are way to early.

A combination of both of them will get us a top Big men duo in the next 15 years. We are in a great position if the FO will finally start doing the right moves. First, get rid of Corbin and build through draft and sign some FA's.

Jazz roster:

Calderon (22) - Burke (20) - Burks (6)
Hayward (30) - Burks (18) - FA (Veteran) (?)
Glenn Robinson III (20) - Carroll (15) - Dunleavy (13)
Kanter (30) - Evans (12) - Carroll (6) - FA (Veteran) (?)
Favors (30) - Dalembert (18)

I disagree. Kanter is dominant on the offensive end, he can almost do it all there. 55 percent FG and 80 percent FG for a big along with offensive boards, putbacks and second chances he brings change the game as much as Favors impact on the defensive end. Both are equal, imo. Btw, we should not underrate Kanter on the defensive end and Favors on the offensive end.

I'd say they equally impact the game and you can't say who of them is the better player. Maybe later but not right now.

If we honestly ended up drafting Burke and Glenn Robinson the 3rd, that would be a truly amazing draft. unfortuntely, David Aldridge reported today on his morning tipthat there are many Gm's and scouts that have trey burke as a high lottery pick. This depresses me quite a lot.

I have the feeling that we will get none of them. Was just some wishful thinking :(

Kanter played like 45 minutes when he had the 20 20 game. Favors played 29 the next night and had a 23 and 15 game. If he plays 45 minutes he probably has a 35 and 22 game. Has Kanter ever done that? Didn't think so. Favors is good. Kanter is good. They can both be great. To say one is better than the other is unfair. Favors should start because be has played more with this team. Veteran status should only matter when players are not visibly better than their peers. Kanter and favors should be starting together though
