Few notes from practice

* Deron Williams was very complimentary of Kyrylo Fesenko. Deron said Jerry has not had to talk to him or get on him at all. That he is without question in the best shape he has ever been in since coming to Utah. Most people who talked to Fesenko on media day talked of a different person. Ben Bagley, of 1320, K-Fan, who has talked with Fesenko as much as about any returning reporter said he was much more serious, well thought out and seemed to be in line to take more advantage of his athletic gifts than he had been in the past

* Jeremy Evans continues to be the talk of the players. One player said he reminded him of a Theo Ratliff type. This player said if he can learn how to block shots, which is an art, and rebound some he will be able to play

* More players told me that Gordon Hayward will be fine. His skill set is strong. He is a rookie and that will show as he will be asked to play. Another player said he believes the wing position is the hardest position to come into the NBA and play. If you look back some really good players struggled in their open year or two.

* Sloanism of the day “If you are holding your shorts all you can see is your shoes.”

* Sloan laugh of the day “When I was a player I wanted to be bigger, now I have reached that point.”

So it's pretty safe to say that Fesenko will be a member of Portland Trail Blazers next season.

As much as I love Millsap, I really hope Fes shows significant improvement this season. This would probably allow us to play with Jefferson at the 4 and Fes at the 5. That's a much more potent combination than Jefferson/Millsap.

And some people around here did not want him back. I mean somebody making 1 million. Do not understand it. Think we will be disappointed we did not sign him for multiple years. See what happens with the CBA.

I'm hoping that all of the Jazz bigs are effective which will put Sloan in the enviable spot of choosing which combo to put on the floor. Plus, it'll be nice if one of either Al/Sap/Memo/Fes/Elson is having a bad night that there is enough back there to compensate for it.

If Ante Tomic was not in the picture the Jazz would have offered him a multi year deal. Thats the only sense I could make of it. Despite a poor worlds showing, KOC probably still sees Tomic as the future Jazz center.

And since we have been tortured by the Lakers frontcourt, an improved Fes + Big Al will be better equipped to go against Bynum and Gasol than Millsap + Big Al.

I am not disputing that Fess has the tools to be effective against the lakers but he was terrible in the playoffs against them in the last series. They hardly guarded him.

Well, I am happy to hear the good news about Fess. I never worry about having too much talent. Sloan makes those decisions. I thought the Jazz should have offered Fess a 2 year deal with a team option for the $2 million a year.

As far as the Laker series, I agree Fess struggled offensively but he certainly made life difficult for Bynum. I know he wasn't 100 percent but Bynum could not back Fess down. If Fess starts making free throws, develops his jump hook shot he has and crashes the boards and swats a few shots then he will be a bargain.

yea that's why i said "an improved Fes" will help... Millsap is just too small against the Lakers and Boston... he will be just fine against the rest of the league.
