Simpsons theme Park.

I'm so there. Perhaps as a younger man I would have been irritated by the lack of rides, but as a fan of the show I just want to walk around and see all of the buildings.

Me too - I guess this isn't your average theme park. Most of the people who were kids in the early 90's when The Simpsons started are now 30 somethings. Those are the folks they're aiming at here - I think kids stopped watching The Simpsons years ago. No need for rides

I'd check it out if I were there. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

I loved the Simpsons in their early seasons. I haven't watched it in a few years though other than re-runs. I can't believe it's in season 25 or whatever. Even the best writers can't keep it interesting for that long.

Does Universal even have the ability to pull theme areas off? The one in Florida is probably better, but the California one just seems like you're walking through a big industrial park with a few attractions here and there. Granted, that industrial park is situated in a beautiful area, but it still would have zero atmosphere if you dropped a little Springfield re-creation in the middle of it. Come to think of it though, Disneyland is the only place I've ever been that does a good job with that kind of stuff.

I agree in general, Disney does it the best by far.

I remember as a kid both Worlds of Fun (in Kansas City) and Great America (the one in the Bay Area...there was an identical one near Chicago IIRC) both did a decent job at creating a theme. Like in Worlds of Fun there was an area called the Orient that was Asian themed and that's where I rode my first roller coaster, the Orient Express. And the rest of the park was themed like Africa/Australia/South America etc. Same with Great America though it was all US themed.

But none do what Disney does. They do it so well all I remember is the good times and how magical the place felt, as opposed to the obscene price, long *** lines, and awful overpriced food.

Not so magical anymore. Prices keep going up and Disney Corp. keeps laying people off, including most of their very best animators. I imagine Disney will soon be outsourcing their animation to China, India, Malaysia or some similar place.
