Comcast most basic doesn't have FSN?

I've just been flipping through the channels. I have a basic package that doesn't have a cable box, but it has all these channels like 200-4 and stuff like that. Most of them aren't labeled. Shouldn't I have FSN if I have any form of comcast cable in SLC?

No, you can't get it with the basic package. You only get a few channels with that package.

Its not channel 52?

Can you get channel 52 without a box? He's talking about the package that comes with the cable that you hook to the back of the TV. I don't think you can get the channel with that.

Comcast has limited their non-box channels to around 20 to open more bandwidth for internet and HD. Anything above ~24 requires a box, including FSN.

These companies just like to suck you dry. I need to get a service soon but not sure what one i want to get. I think I am going to go with direct tv but all the prices are the same.

Not true. My dad has basic (i.e. no box, just a converter) and he got Rockies games on Channel 52.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the TV. When I hooked up an older TV (5-10 years old) to the cable line without a box, I only got 20-30 channels. However, when I hooked up a newer TV (2-3 years, HD capable) to the cable line without a box, I got many more channels, including some HD ones.

I've probably had them all and Direct TV is the best one.

It just recently changed, ALL Tv's now require a box to receive anything above the most basic channels... I believe it was around the middle of September. Each customer can receive two boxes for free as well, you just need to call. For as much as people like to complain, you think they would just call the source of the problem and find a reasonable solution.

I work in the industry (albeit on the east coast) as I think some of you know. Most cable companies require you to have a box in order to receive anything outside of the local channels, and even that may be stretching it. Satellite companies also will require a box on every set. Just out of curiosity...is Fios available in Utah?

If you're refering to Verizon's FiOS, then no. But fiber optic is available on a Very limited basis. There is an initiative called "Futopia" or "Utopia" or something like that that is sponsored by some munincipal governments but it has stalled. I wish they lay some fiber to my house so I can crawl out of Comcast's ugly shadow.
