Tony Mitchell - Would LOVE him at #21

Why are some of you not high on Mitchell? I think he is going to get drafted by Portland at #20 so he won't be available but if he is, I would love him at #21.

I'd take a chance on him too at 21. We know he is a great athlete. I think he has a chance to be good.

I know all his numbers dropped from his freshman year to his sophomore year but there was a new coach and adjustments. He has all the tools.

According to the 1200 page draft thread, his body is stronger than Lebron's and he can jump higher too. He can't play small forward though, so everyone will pass up on his athleticism and he'll be playing in Europe next season.

Thanks for the summary. As for that monstrosity of a draft thread...TL/DR!

Just kidding, I sometimes go there and wander around for 15-30 mins.

Pretty much how I feel. Basically, his stats aren't that great playing against really poor competition. Red flag for me.

Liar.

I wanted him when I thought he'd play SF, but he sees himself as a PF so I don't want him anymore. I'd rather have Giannis.

I always hated the idea of Mitchell being drafted as a SF like Wes loved last year, but I like him as a backup PF. Dude would be like Evans with bulk and power.

That's not a strong Lebron with more hops but can't play SF? Almost every other post I just read said he's a tweener, can't play SF, PF only (hack)...?

im not complaining if this is the pick at 14.

to me this kid has top 10 talent, he has more of a defined position than perry jones, and if he can iso guard 3's this guy is $, his feet look quick enough to do it, and holy crap does this kid have whats called "recovery speed"

major character issues, get him out of his hometown, bring him around ty the taskmaster and these good kids, whenever im looking at a player outside of the lotto i ask myself this very very important question, why is he not a lotto pick..

with this kid my answer is this

attitude, work ethic, and his shot selection as a senior is what obliterated his value, MASSIVE upside, this kid has potential to dominate, in a... what the hell is even going on right now, who saw this coming, type of fashion, insane athlete, plus hes always the alpha dog, we put him under favors and kanter we have a BEAST, this kid is one of my favorites in the draft, im waiting measurments to tell you his grade, i can tell you though its probably in the teens

Maybe it was PG_AB's stuff but he's deleted every post and replaced them with ".". There are pages of nothing but . . . . . . now.

Yeah, what you quoted Cy as saying is pretty close to consensus but to the pro side of the debate. The one that was pimping him the hardest with GypTooth.

I've probably been the biggest hater.. though I recognize he has some skill. I just can't get past him not dominating tiny white dudes.

If we're picking undersized PFs would rather go with Watford, at least he has one guaranteed skill, and should be available at 46.

Add a pole to the thread. If the majority of Jazzfanz thinks he sucks, then he'll probably be good and we should pick him. Going against the grain on Jazzfanz is money in the bank.

Plus JazzFanners have this weird bias against athletic people. I don't know how you can trust that, when the game is dominated by athletes .

i like siding with the international players over the american counterpart, especially when their appears to be some bias going on

but in the case of Giannis vs Tony Mitchell

i think Mitchell is much more ready to contribute right off the bat, with tons of room for improvement

also id hope Mitchell falling from the top 10 to out of the lottery has been a humbling experience, theres a very good chance that this player, who is ULTRA athletic is also very hungry

this pick will always looked at vs Harrison Barnes as the years pass, so why not get a guy who can check Barnes on Defense

also if this is the pick at 21 and Schroder is the pick at 14, i think that indicates were gonna run a bit more than usual next season

Physically he reminds me of a young Karl Malone. he is more naturally athletic than KM. Here's hoping he would have the work ethic. I wouldn't mind him at #21. He could prove to be the new Millsap.

Mitchell is a 6'8 PF that only played ONE ranked team last year (Creighton, lol). Against those college teams, most of which ranked in the 200's (literally), he shot 44% from the field and 30% from 3. All his numbers went down from the year prior. He either fouled out or only had one more foul to give in nearly half of the games last year.

He has talent, but all of that above is a definite red flag(s).
People have bad games.. but does this 'look' like an NBA PF?

Against Florida International (lol) - 32 minutes, 0pts, 2rbs, 4PF's
Against LA-Lafayette (lolololol) - 25 minutes, 3pts, 4rbs, fouled out

In the Florida Int'l game he was guarding Tyrnell Murphy who put up 22pts and 2rbs.
In the LA-Lafayette game, Mitchell was guarding Shawn Long (mostly) who put up 23pts and 15rbs.

Mitchell holds no appeal to me. He has talent but looks like a knucklehead.
