MCW panned on DX?

Correct me if I'm wrong... But isn't it his court awareness that is being attacked here? He sucks in the half court (according to DX). He's one of the worst in the half court set when you consider his scoring, turnovers, and P&R offense.

Isn't that what DX is attacking here?

See, that's why I brought this article up. Up until now we've merely talked about his poopey shooting. If his ability to run an offense sucks... then what good is his athleticism if he cannot shoot or run an offense?

So he can dunk real good on a fast break. Yay. We have that in Jeremy Evans.

What about the other major parts of a PG? You know, running a team, controlling the tempo of a game, PASSING, maybe even SHOOTING?

I think his court awareness is superb. You can see that in the stats from the 7.3 assist and 2.8 steals and it also passes the eye test for me. I think where his problems are coming from are a loose handle and poor decision making. But, I think both of those things can be tightened up a bit in the NBA. I'm not concerned with his passing, I think that will translate very well to the NBA. If he can tighten up his handle and break a few bad habits such as making jump passes, I think his ast/to ratio will be fine.

Funny story.

Locke blasted CJ over Twitter a few weeks ago.

CJ then blasts him for nitpicking a few crappy games and analyzing those.

A few days later, Locke apologizes over Twitter and has been praising CJ ever since.

That's Locke for ya!

Why anyone trusts this joke is beyond me.

He hasn't backed down on his criticisms. He just has a new respect for him for calling him out.

A couple years ago Locke asked Givony in their podcast who the likely all stars would be. Givony's reply? Irving and Biyombo. I don't really trust Givony.

I'm always very hesitant to say a guy can fix things like decision making and a loose handle when they are jumping up in competition level to the extent they are. Add to that very poor shooting and a slight build. I see Shaun Livingston.

I think if you could bat over .500, year in and year out, in the NBA draft you'd likely be the best GM in history. 70% is pure speculation.

Worse than Shaun, IMO. Personally I think loose handles are VERY hard to correct.

MCW doesn't pass the eye-test for me. He never has

People were saying the same thing about Rondo, his offense has improved. I want a lock-down defender at the 1 or 2. If MCW can become a lock-down defender w/ average offense at 6'6, it's a no brainer @ 14.

Whats a lockdown PG defender in the NBA? I cant name any.

So, yes, if he could "lockdown" the Paul's, Westbrook's, Parker's, Rose's etc of the world, then......well, yeah. He'd also likely have 2 more wishes left........

I agree taht decision making is a pretty hard skill to improve. But, I think just breaking a few bad habits such as jump passing is do-able. And I'd much rather be challenged to improve a players handle than his court awareness.

None of these guys are going to be blue chip prospects at 14. They are all going to have flaws. Some folks will prefer a guy like Shabazz who can score the rock all ready. I prefer a guy like MCW who can all ready play defense and has a very good floor game.

Best case scenario it might be a choice between Maggette or Livingston. Maggette did have a better career, but, without the horrendous injury I would have taken Livingston every time.

But, heck those 2 might not even be that good. Odds are they aren't. Might be more like CJ Miles vs. Jamie Watson.

Ugg.

Shudder.

I guess I'll be thrilled if we get a player as good as Maggette on further reflection.

There aren't many in todays game. I'd say Rondo and Paul are the only two. My question would be how well he'd do transitioning from running a zone all through college, to man defense. He was a very good defense player in college.

If there are two people you should listen to regarding the draft on this site, it's PKM and I. Neither one of us like MCW, never have. That's pretty much all you need to know. He's not that good.

I've always liked Hantlers as a poster but this is the second time I have called you out to no response, if I remember correctly. Just saying...

Been working. I don't remember the first time. What are ya disagreeing with?

First time was about your all knowing music tastes, but I don't really remember if you ended up replying or not. You really believe that your analysis of college prospects is that much better than the rest of us? I know PKM is full of himself but it sounds more out of character when you say things like this. And I'm very high on MCW so just ribbing you a bit.

Looking at prospects completely depends on what you're looking for. It's precisely why you rarely have a player that is a consensus favourite amongst any fanbase.

I think part of the draft that people don't think about, is how a player will fit with a team that he gets drafted to. Utmost importance is placed on BPA, and then we automatically just focus on how a player competed on his respective level.

Lets take a step back. How will this player fit-in on a team with high draft picks? Are his talents conducive to the rest of our squad? Are his talents based around cooperation and team-work?? Very important in the NBA game.

Defense isn't all about measurements-- a lot of defense has to do with mindset. I think Gordon Hayward is living proof of this.

This is why I don't place massive stock in MCWs ability to stay in the passing lanes. Couple that with his participation in an elite defensive System (hint hint Chris Singleton, FSU) and this effectively cools me on his biggest attribute. Not to mention the fact that he simply doesn't pass the eye test for me.

When I think about team fits, drive, leadership-- it leaves me with only one player I really want: Trey Burke. He is essentially everything we need from our current hole in PG. We HAVE capable offensive players. We have good defenders, players who can carry offenses for short periods of time. All we need is a selfless player who makes his teammates better, and can fill the leadership void we have on this team

I think i could be sold on Schröder or McCollum, but these are players that will be found in many drafts. I do like McCollum quite a bit, but Burke definitely intrigues me more. He's on another echelon.
