CJ gives detailed answers that shows he is studying like crazy. He wants to know everything and wants to learn more. He is very mature and educated on the game for his age.

His game still scares me but I will say that his game scares me a lot less than the the people projected to go in the teens. I am not sure Burks is worth giving up though. I am really torn. But I am leaning towards yes because I think Hayward needs to play the 2 most of the time.

He is not a good man to man defender. But I will give him a pass and if anyone has played on a team before where you are the only scorer ......... it is very hard to have the energy to defend. I think he will get better. It was good to hear him talk about diet because I think he is a little on the hefty side. Needs to tone up to become quicker.

When he drives to the paint he is always trying to out jump his opponent. He struggled doing that in college no way he can do that in the pro's driving to the paint. Chris Paul, Stockton, Nash, parker etc all were/are very good at staying on the ground. They rarely jump straight up because if they do it gives the defender time to block the shot.
The elite guards learn how to stay low and shoot while running with a floater and also passing without jumping. Even the layups they rarely leave the ground.
It was good he was saying he is trying to develop the floater. The only issue is the floater needs to be done almost flat footed. If you jump while doing the floater you give the defender the ability to time the shot and get contest more often.

I am obviously only showing his weaknesses. His strengths are obvious I think with his shooting and IQ. Just needs to learn some veteran skills other wise he will turn into a Jimmer type player very quickly. I think he could bust and become a Foye type player very quickly. If he does not learn the PG tricks of pick and roll or a floater he won't have a chance. He doesn't have the athletic ability that the other guards do in the league that are successful. The ones who aren't athletic have the ability to float shots and run the pick and roll well.

There are other factors to consider but these are the big ones. And yes its pretty balanced but Burke has the upper hand on the skills that translate better to the NBA. He is already ready to run the pick and roll and has court vision. He also is a better man to man defender which is more important than off-ball. Less risk.
Burke is also a much better finisher at the rim and is better at the floater than CJ.
Those are very very important skills that a PG needs in the NBA.
CJ I think could develop them over time but he could also not and end up being a Eddie House type player at a worst case scenario.
Trey Burke worst case is a solid PG who just fills the role of PG but nothing way great. Like a Jameer Nelson type career.

Thanks Hotttnickkk. I will usually only post when I feel like there is something that is not being said. And I feel like everyone is missing how CJ cannot finish well or run the pick and roll. Very essential PG qualities. If we truly are trading up for CJ we better have Stockton working with CJ all summer on the pick and roll and the floater. And signing a veteran who is at least mediocre at that things so he can help CJ out.

Disagree. The little things like the floater and pick and roll are more important than rebounding for a PG. You can have a Center who sucks at rebounding and defense but is good at passing. But he most likely won't get to play much because he will get killed on the inside. Same goes for PG's. If you don't have the point guard qualities you won't stay on the court very long. Your role becomes much more important in the NBA than it does in college. Weaknesses get exposed for your position much more in the NBA.
 
I feel like Burke had a lot more talent around him at Michigan, while CJ was asked to be the show. From everything I've personally seen, CJ will be a better pro than Burke.

This is especially true with Brandon Knight. The only thing that separates McCollum/Curry with him though could be relentless 3pt shooting, both spot up and off the dribble. I think Curry's GREAT shooting hides a lot of his weaknesses as a PG.

It is true he had more talent. But what PG's qualities do you see in CJ that he has already shown? Look at the best PG's in the league. They all have similar qualities that I listed before. Am I missing some PG quality that CJ has, that shows he won't just be a spot up shooter in the NBA?

Yes he could be a Curry type player but Curry also has a very very quick release. CJ does not so he will struggle getting his 3 off relentlessly...... lol If that is a word.

CJ also hasn't show to have the patience off the pick and roll the same way Curry had even out of college. Curry waits for the defense to make a move than he decide to shoot or slash. CJ is so horrible at the pick and roll. There are some wing players in the draft better than CJ at that.

I am a huge Burke supporter but this is something that is possible. CJ would never have this problem.
BUT
I would rather take the risk of Burke's ego. Which isn't even a big issue. Very minor and a low risk of this happening

A lot of people have compared CJ to DWill coming out of college. Similar sized. Both play off the ball at times. Both are big guards. Both good shooters. I wasn't following that draft, so I have no idea.

What's your take on that comparison?

Physically yes I think they are very similar. They both are pretty good off the ball. CJ is actually a better shooter than D-Will was coming out of college.
BUT
D-Will had good court vision(patience) and could run the pick and roll. D-Will was already seeing how the defense will play him and when he should shoot of the pick. CJ has not developed that yet. Very out of control. D-Will also could not do the floater BUT again D-Will even though they are similar in size he could power through opposing big men to finish. His strength has helped him a ton with finishing. CJ does not have that same strength or ability. Big difference in finishing at the rim. D-Will is paying the price now though because he is losing a little bit of his athletic ability and strength so he isn't finishing as well. Never learned the floater so his career is probably over in the next 3-4 years in terms of playing at a high level. Paul will last longer.

If there is a team that could develop CJ into a real PG it would be the Jazz if Sloan helps retard Corbin coach CJ.

I love Bebe so I would be happy. You know how I feel about Larkin.
If they drafted Bebe at 14 and Larkin at 21 I would be ok with it, so I'd have to live with this.

I still think Schroeder is the better player when it's all said and done.

Deron is a much better run and jump athlete and I believe much stronger. Personally I like players who will be defensive liablilities- I see McCollum that way. If your on-ball D is weak, isn't the opposition going to go at you with guard play? McCollum also like to dribble, dribble and dribble the ball on offense (see Jimmer Fredette). That is a very poor habit for a future role player.

I would rather get Bebe or one of the wings. I just don't see the point guards (small guards) in this draft being very good.
