What's new

Everybody thank Danny Ainge and the Celtics.

KOC finds out a few hours before the draft that the Celtics are moving up to the 13th pick to get Kelly Olynk. It sounds like the Jazz REALLY liked him and the Jazz would have stayed put at 14 and drafted him. But since they knew he would be gone they had to change their game plan.

Now Olynk isn't bad but I don't seem him having any type of major impact in the NBA besides 10-15 min a game.

So if the Jazz get Olynk at 14 who in the hell do they draft at 21? Larkin is gone, Schroeder is gone. Maybe Wolters?

Anyway this draft could have been REALLY bad for the Jazz if that trade didn't go down.

Props to KOC for getting that information and turning that "negative" information into a positive.

I would have been stoked with Olynyk. According to Locke, he hit 63/100 3's at the Jazz's workout (at the Jazz's request). Utah was obviously interested in him as being the next Okur to compliment Favors and Kanter.

I'm guessing if we didn't trade down we would have gone with Larkin at 14 and Gobert at 21 if we didn't trade down.

Im not saying I don't like Olynk but but if he's there at 14 then the Jazz aren't getting a PG. Schroeder and Larkin were gone.

Lindsey referred to it late last night, but I didn't hear him put any team with it. He said that about an hour or two before the draft KOC got a call from a respected and long relationship that gave the Jazz the information they needed to know they had to work something out.

Locke was telling people that Olynk was the top player projected to be left on the Jazz board, and they had a few scenarios where he fell to them at 14. I was impressed that Locke seemed to have had a bunch of inside information and equally impressed that he did not spill the beans and ruin it.

I wonder if all the late chatter about Karasev jumping into the lottery possibly as high as 10 was put on by Jazz and or Celtics to make sure Olynk fell. Didn't work.

Which Locke believes this was Danny Ainge. Which makes sense.

This comes from Locke and Lindsey mentioned it in last night's interview, thought he didnt mention Olynk or the Celtics by name. Also notable that Cody Zeller was probably #1 on the Jazz draft board and they were looking for deals to get him.

I really liked Cody Zeller too. They would have had to give up a young piece to get him though.

I actually had the Jazz taking Olynyk in my mock. My reasoning is that both Kanter and Favors are in-the-paint players and a big who could step outside would complement those two. I understand the concerns within the organization about the ability of Favors and Kanter to co-exist. That said, Kanter has a pretty nice touch and I'm sure Favors will be working on a fallback jumper with Malone. With the presence those two give the Jazz down low, I hope Utah is patient in letting them develop their offensive talents. Perhaps having a shooter like Burke will take some pressure off those two. Add in Gobert, and the offense should be just throw it up near the basket and let our bigs go get it!

Well the Jazz could have draft CJ then if they moved up or they could have stayed with their picks and draft Bazz, Gobert and Green which wouldn't have been a bad draft either. So I don't really know if Danny deserve any kudos.

I know this is a reach, and very unlikely the day after the draft....but what if.....Charlotte unexpectedly took Zeller in the draft to be used in a sign and trade with Utah where Jazz signed Al Jefferson and traded him to Charlotte for Zeller? Charlotte needs more than Zeller, and nobody saw that coming.

Could the Late rumour that Kanter was available be part of it? Zeller & 2014 1st for Jefferson & Kanter?

Now word out of Charlotte: No Qualifying offer to Mullens.
EXCLUSIVE: Bobcats will give Gerald Henderson a qualifying offer, but NOT Byron Mullens.
Jefferson still in play.

Yea I don't understand the Favors and Kanter do not go together argument especially if Kanter expands his game and starts shooting from outside.

I really thought the Thunder should have drafted Olynyk. Him next to Ibaka would have made a lot of sense. Would have really given the Thunder that dynamic big man scoring option they have sorely missed.

Wow I wasn't that big of a fan but that is some impressing shooting.

Yea but the Jazz could have made the same trade up and drafted CJ which of course would have resulted in the Jazz not getting Olynk.

But Burke and Bazz is a pretty huge separation. Especially with the need of a PG.
