Just how small is Burke?

I've always considered 6'1" to be prototypical PG size. And I hear a lot of hand wringing about Burke being undersized. So, I tried to get a feel for what sizes PGs in the league really were. Quite a few of the players in here didn't have actual data to use so I estimated. Those estimates could be wildly off. If anyone has better numbers they'd like me to use I'll be happy to edit it.

Basically, it shows Burke to be about 1.25 inches short, a tad over average wingspan, and about 1.25 inches smaller standing reach.

Of all the measurements for a PG I believe wingspan is the most important.

Burke is like Chris Paul with slightly longer arms and a bit more standing reach.

Edit: Interesting that he's about like Ray Felton, Mike Conley or Kyle Lowry. He'll be fine.

I heard a rumor that Burke was measured incorrectly at the draft. I heard he is 7'2 with a wingspan of 7'9". Sorry, but I am deliriously happy after the draft...:p

Maybe the important thing is that he is an average to below average athlete for an NBA PG. He also doesn't play with great strength/balance in the paint. Watch how Chris Paul moves in the point and then watch tape of Burke. Similar sized players can't always make similar plays.

Sometimes it just simply comes down to heart, inner drive, and brains. Burke has 'it' ... we're good.

On Burke's height:

2. He is small. But not that small. And this is not that big a deal.
Burke measured 5-foot-11 and 3/4 inches tall at the pre-draft combine. But that just measures him to the top of his head, and how often does a player use the top of his head?
Burke has big hands and is deceptively long. He has a longer reach than Lehigh guard C.J. McCollum, even though McCollum is 2-1/2 inches taller. Some teams may like Syracuse guard Michael Carter-Williams better than Burke because Carter-Williams has "an NBA body," but they need to look more closely. Carter is, indeed, five inches taller than Burke. But his wingspan is only 1-3/4 inches longer.

He also measures less than an inch in both the "real" height gauges compared to Deron Williams.

Burke: 6'5.5" wingspan, 8'1.5" standing reach
Deron: 6'6.25" wingspan, 8'2" standing reach

I stole that from someone on here.

I think your standing reach number for Burke is wrong. His standing reach is 8'1.5". Wouldn't that be 97.5"?

If he was legit 6'3" but had a below ave wingspan, NO one would be talking about his size. As has been said, the top of your head really isn't getting a **** ton of use in the league these days. "Size" only means height to the media and then they perpetuate myths and fans start trying to say "smart" catch phrases at the water cooler so they sound up to date on the local sports team.

"Dude, but I've really looked into Burke's's and I'm worried about his size. Side note: I sold like 14 alarms and a **** ton of Tahitian Noni before lunch!"

I say he is perfect for what we need. He is fine size wise, as has been shown, and whether you like it or not, you can't have a full roster of all nba players on a team. He has moxie, yet he has game too. He can shoot, he can pass, and who isn't drooling when they talk about his pick and roll skills. He may not be the fastest guard out there, but neither was Deron.

Basically, if you compare our now core 5.5 to the Avengers, he is Capatin America. Not the strongest or the fastest, or the biggest, but his leadership makes the entire rest of the team much more effective. (and he still isn't a slouch, he contributes plenty)

(kanter is Hulk, Gordon is IronMan, Favors is Thor, Burks is, um, the bow guy? well, he's probably going to get traded anyway, sad as that would make me)

I'm afraid that because of his diminutive stature that he will be limited in his ability. Based solely on his height he won't be able to preform any better than John Stockton, who has the same height. There is good news however, because these awful limitations will be reduced in part by his wingspan which is I believe larger than Stocktons.

Hopefully we can all cope.
