What's new

July 9th, Summer League Game 2: Jazz vs Rockets 1:00 PM MT

Let's not go overboard here. He was able to get around his man but he struggled when going up against the NBA bigs. His shot was off from the perimeter. He didn't manage the clock well and seemed more concerned with showing his "leadership" by waving players around the court rather than ensuring the possession was successful. The offense, as a whole, looked like a sluggish mess with lanes and the paint clogged, screens not being well set, and a lack of crisp passing out of the PNRs.

I'm still really high on Burke, and I think that he's dealing with some poor surrounding talent while also trying to learn the offensive system in a really short time, but he really didn't have a great game. He didn't even have a good one.

Luckily, that doesn't mean anything - it will be his growth from one game to the next that matters more than anything, since that will be reflective of his work ethic and learning curve - both of which I expect to be strong.

the 1st half he was definitely over-dribbling and trying to do to much which led to bad possessions

but by the 2nd half i thought he started running the offense a lot better

i think he will eventually find his spot in the offense and understand how to play

One the main qualities a player needs to be great is "having the ability to self-evaluate and know what to do/change for the future."

You can just see it in his eyes when he speaks that he's sincere about figuring things out and you just believe it when listening to him talk.

I'm excited simply for that aspect of Burke's game... it's almost as if he knows he's destined to succeed. I really like that about him

Anyone know if Burks will be playing this game???

Or any update on Burks' injury?

I don't believe the injury was bad at all, but I doubt he'll play in many more games. He's going into his 3rd year and proved himself.

@utahjazz: Alec Burks (left ankle), Tony Gaffney (right adductor) & Jerel McNeal (right knee) are all doubtful vs Houston tomorrow. #JazzSummer

That's also coming from Bill Oram though, who is less knowledgeable than Raul Neto's father about the Jazz organization.

So now mambo starts posting again...hmmm..interesting.

This is my only account is youre thinking otherwise. Im always reading what you knuckleheads have to say but now im actually interested in the teams well-being enough to come outta my hiatus of not posting

Interesting to see how Burke does in game two... my prediction was he would start to stand out in game 3.
Both Rondo and Wall told me the first couple games were an eye opener to the size, strength, and speed and they had to settle in and get comfortable with their needed adjustments.

Thinking the Jazz wanted Alec to play as many minutes at PG as he could. Doubt he returns for this game.

Alec clearly seemed like he didn't belong at the summer league. Looked like a pickup game for him. I don't expect him to be back, coaches should recognize that he doesn't have much to gain from participating and rest him to prevent any injury from worsening.

sl mvp did a lot for his confidence last year. he was scoring at will. if he is going to be a top-3 scoring option this year, while i agree that it is more importnat that the injury doesn't worsen, he should be out there dropping 20+

Alec Burks on the court helps Trey Burke. It always helps to play with players who know where to be, have the timing and rythym down and are confident and capable.

Don't think so. I think they want to give Trey the lions share of minutes at PG so that they can evaluate him early and get him as much experience with the "system" (ironic quotes because, you know, Ty is coaching) as possible.

Pretty sure Alec is there so that Trey can learn how to assist a strong wing, with Gobert/Evans taking the Favors/Kanter roles. Given Alec's ankle and Evans' sub par play, looks like Trey's going to need to rely on Merry Christmas though.

Edited to add: What mellow said.

On the Jazz facebook page they posted a picture of the team finishing their shoot around earlier today.
Alec Burks was in uniform. Not sure why he would have dressed if he wasn't ready to go.
