Who could handle putting off winning one more year?

We should have room for another pick grab using cap space even after signing Favors and Hayward ? Yes or No?

Don't we want to NOT sign anyone long term until we make up our minds on Burk and Kanter too? So bringing in another expiring would be the best thing to do right? I just don't who would come here that would make it worth losing those two by signing them in free agency.

Or do we say screw that and try to find good players in free agency next year so we can win?
 
Either sign top FA's if we can get them, or do a repeat of this year.

Don't overpay middle of the road guys under any circumstance.

I watched that video too and had to go back and see if he really said Maurice lol.
 
The Jazz have a rep to uphold. They need to shoot for playoffs 2014-15 regardless of how the core looks at the end of this season.

I think after giving the core a year to develop and hopefully adding a guy like Wiggins, Parker, or Randle, we'd be in contention for the playoffs without signing any big free agents. We would just need to give them a decent bench, not this year's circus bench.

That's the thing though. How do you get a good bench without paying for it?

Nope, we do the same thing. However, Jazz will have only $15M-$20M (if I've calculated correctly) to take on in "expirings for cap space" deals instead of the $32M in expirings they're carrying this season: need to adjust for the new contracts for Favors and Hayward and the salaries for the draft picks. Jazz will have room to pay Kanter and Burks next year without going over the luxury tax even if they sign 1-2 FA's to 3 yr deals. The real money crunch comes as Burke, Gobert and then the 2014 picks are due new contracts. But do they need to go after FA's? If the current core pans out, Jazz will have Kanter, Favors, Hayward, Burks, Burke, + their 2014 pick (likely starter/6th man quality), Gobert, + GS 1st round pick + Neto. That's 9 players right there. Guess it depends on how those players develop and who the Jazz draft. I could see the Jazz looking for better outside shooting (maybe a combo forward to provide that?) and perhaps an experienced backup PG. Neto is raw and Burks may/may not be the answer.

Last year there were 4 "core" guys.

Next year there will be 6.

The year after that, at least 8 (two first rounders, plus possibly Neto, Tomic, and/or whoever gets picked in the 2nd round).

There's your rotation if you want.
 
But yeah, what UGLI said. You don't pay anything substantial to anyone unless they are really, really good or you have every intention of capitalizing on the asset (Nene/McGee style).

The Jazz will not be able to keep everyone. But every draft pick is a lottery ticket. If the Jazz get a blue-chipper next year and Kanter keeps progressing, Only one of Burke, Hayward, or Burks needs to be good enough to be a third option and the Jazz are kind of set. Any other players that are in a George Hill caste (good, productive players that are somewhat duplicitous and can be moved for another strong asset that will stay cheap and/or may become better) get treated like George Hill. That, or the new CBA is going to significantly depress the market in restricted free agency.

Between a potentially easier time in RFA, the George Hill method of extending an asset, and the Nene way of minimizing asset loss, the Jazz can find a way to sustain success but they will have to keep working and hope that they don't out-think themselves and trade James Harden for scraps.
 
With the salary cap you cannot build a bench until after you've established your core. Build the bench with the MLE and draft picks. Don't sign a single bench guy til you have a core in place that can contend for a title some day.

^This + we have a good core. The Jazz will contend for the WD title in a couple of years, and this should attract ring chasing veterans, too. Bold? I think not.
