Tanking Ideas

. I know people are going to accuse the Jazz of out and out tanking but I disagree with that argument until I see the manipulation of players time or a player held out who is obviously healthy to play. I would be embarrassed if the Jazz went to that length to "maybe" get a shot at a high pick.

Actually, I don't see national media saying the Jazz are tanking as an accusation. At all. They are pointing out the strategy of the FO and nailing it on the head.

There's nothing wrong with playing long term chess in major leagues. Nothing to be ashamed of here. Besides, we did it with a potential nucleus and never went Boston.

in the tank race the jazz are already being out maneuvered,

Philly trading Jrue Holliday for a lottery pick that wont be ready for the season, then they can "ease" him back to health at a slow pace, PR'd as they didnt want to pay Jrue asking price..

celtics have made the most blantant move, and have pre-emptively PR'd it placing blame on Rondo and Doc Rivers...

Suns selecting Len with Gortat on the roster and holes everywhere, to me seems kinda suspect...

Agree. None of those teams has the nucleus that we do. So finishing with the worst record probably isn't feasible unless the Jazz have significant injuries. Of course, I'll always hope the Jazz get one of the top-3 picks via the lottery. Outside of that, I'm hopeful we can finish in the 4-8 range and still get a starter-quality player.

So, the guy's got some great iso moves, and that's cool. And his athleticism is outstanding.

But when I watch this, all I see is a series of dunks. In the NBA when people are much more physical, is he going to be able to get away with this? Does he have a reliable midrange J? How about a deep two/3pt?

Agreed. Either the person making the mix thinks that lots of dunks = elite level basketball (false, but of course this is pretty much everyone making mixes nowadays) or that is about his entire repertoire so far.

I want to be aghast at everybody here just blatantly and openly hoping for the Jazz to tank, but I can't. It's the league and the way it's structured. It favors this awful, strange type of fandom. The least they could do is change the first round back to a best-of-five, but alas.

I can be aghast at people wanting the Jazz to sit their core young players with ghost injuries for a 25% shot at Wiggins. Just stop, ugh. Don't you want finally get to see them play? What's the matter with you? What a weird way to enjoy a sport.

I'd be thrilled if the Jazz made the playoffs as an 8 seed. In this conference? With this young of a roster? With this inept of a coach? Cool.

I agree with your sentiment, but I think the issue is that we have been watching the Jazz do that, and make strange weird lucky inspired moves to keep competitive while never really taking that next step to get us all the way there, for 30+ years. It is refreshing to see the front office doing something we see other teams do all the time, who then win championships. The Jazz almost never make blockbuster trades, or trades that make you go "wait, what?", or tank the season instead of busting their asses to squeak into the playoffs, while teams like Boston or LA or even the Spurs take a more aggressive approach and have rings to show for it. I personally am not rooting for a full-blown tank job, and I hope they play hard and are fun to watch most of the time, but I also will be much happier to see them with a chance to draft a superstar rather than just barely missing the playoffs and drafting another "solid" bench guy, or fringe starter, or worse, make the playoffs just to get no better the next year, as has happened all too often.

It's just nice to see them break the status quo for the NBA's most conservative franchise.

Nominated for most shortsighted post ever.

Show me a team that has won a title in the last twenty years not named LA that didn't have a season where they were a terrible team a few years before.

Constantly battling for the 8th seed is not a good place to be. Mediocre isn't admirable.

That's the way to keep peoples interest while the jazz tank.

If you're talking about Wiggins... yes.. he has it all. A little raw.. but worth all the praise.
