Hotttnickkk's write up:

Shaquille O'Neal: The most dominating big man to have EVER played the game of basketball. He is a x4 time NBA Champion, including x3 Finals MVP, x15 time NBA All Stars. Yeah Bill Russel was great in the days - but I don't think he has ever faced anyone quite like Shaq. Shaq is going to put him on constant foul trouble trying to guard him. He's big, he's long, and he's STRONG.

Dirk Nowitzki: The best shooting PF to have EVER played the game. Bill Walton is going to have a field day running around guarding Dirk on the perimeter who will be knocking down 3's after 3's. With his 7'0 frame, he'll simply rise above for those mid-range jumpers. Dirk is the perfect pairing for Shaq as his shooting will spread the floor & make room for Shaq to operate down low.

Kevin Garnett: This is going to be the Minnesota version of Kevin Garnett who could guard anyone of SF, PF and C. He is going to be a menace on the floor, shutting down guys defensively even before they get into the paint. He'll be so long on the perimeter, Mullen won't be able to get a shot off. Offensively, he'll hit the fadeaway jumper and will be a slashing/alley hooping machine for Jason Kidd's pin point passing.

James Harden: Offensively he'll be wayyyyyyyy too strong for Iverson in this match up. Iverson doesn't even want to play defense. So Harden will drive the ball and finish it at the basket, or he'll just pull up for a 3pter. He'll put Iverson on constant foul trouble. He'll also shut down Iverson defensively with his quickness and big frame.

Jason Kidd: One of the best passing PG to have ever played the game. He'll control the tempo. He's one of the only PG big enough & strong enough to contain Oscar defensively. Offensively, Kidd's 3 pt shooting will help spread the floor for everyone else to operate. He is 3rd ALL TIME in 3pts made (Oscar won't even know what hit him).

Bench:

Andrew Bynum (Lakers days) and Blake Griffin will provide strong presence and ENERGY off the bench. Bynum in his Lakers days won 2 rings for the ultra soft Gasol. Rondo will set the tone defensively at the Point and provide tremendous passing. But the key to this bench is 3pt shooting. Mitch Richmond and Peja Stojakovic (both Kings days) are arguably two of the purest 3pt shooters to have ever played the game. Especially with Rondo's pin point passing, he'll be setting up easy set 3pt shots that Mitch and Peja will be knocking down from all over the floor. Richmond will be wayy too strong for the out of position Byron Scott. And C-Web just won't be able to chase around Peja on the perimeter

Mitch Richmond will play the 6th man role offensively for us. Offensively this is how good he is. Mitch Richmond is one of only four players to average at least 21.0 points in each of their first 10 NBA seasons, and the others are all Hall of Famers or certain future inductees--Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson

Have to admit I love the Shaq-Nowitzki-Garnett trio. Nowitzki pulls his defender out and lets Shaq get to work. Having Garnett on the SF with his intensity is interesting. I go Hottt

Iverson breaks this one for me. In his prime especially he was too dependent on having the ball and then doing what he wanted. I see him disrupting that offense too much to be able to compensate against another great team.

Agreed. But Harden isn't better in that perspective. Plus he has absolutely zero defense, at least AI can steal the ball.

But anyway I can't decide about voting. I don't like Garnett at 3, the disadvantages outweigh the goods. On the other hand I don't like Bill Walton starting at 4 while Chris Webber rotting on the bench as a SF.

voted for triple k. Basketball IQ and balance between leadership, scoring and defense is really good. Will always give u the chance to match the proper players up against each other.

I'll probably end up voting for you, nickkk, but stop trying to sell Kidd as a 3 point shooter. You can have Kidd in his prime, or you can have the Kidd that could shoot 3's. You can't have both.

Chris Mullen can't guard KG. No one could. No one. And yes, I think KG has a better all-around game than Kevin Durant and does just fine as an SF. His range just stops at 22 feet. That's all.

Bill Walton isn't going to do anyone any good trying to guard Dirk out 20-feet and beyond.

And as much as I like Bill Russel, he's 6'9"---basically Ben Wallace without the afro--no way he's guarding a prime Shaq.

I'm not a big fan of either team's bench, but Webber doesn't make much sense out on the perimeter to me.

Nod to Hotttnikkkkk

This KG as a SF thing has got to stop. This is what Minnesota did to tank, BTW. DQ.

One thing has nothing to do with the other whatsoever. Klay Thompson played the SG/SF position when the GSW tankers tanked hard to get Barnes.

Because of that I guess you would say that means Klay can't play SG/SF for ****.

Tempted to neg Fozzy for his team. That's the ****tiest all time fantasy team I've ever seen. Like skinny white kid in max security ****ty.

And no **** about KG. if he wasn't such a hated ******* there'd be an endless KG or Hakeem debate.

Guy is probably most underrated player of all time. But he's a jackass so it evens out.

He is? There would? Hakeem may be most underrated player of all time considering he's arguably the best rim-protector the league has ever seen while simultaneously being the best post-player the league has ever seen while also being the only player I can name that won a championship without another marquee player (Otis Thorpe is not marquee and neither is Kenny Smith [even though he is a very underrated player as well]).

This.

That Hakeem ruled is beyond the point, though: What jackass plays him on the perimeter?

Great post. Shaq was an imposing figure, but he had to always bully his way to the basket. And you could "Hack-a-Shaq" in the 4th quarter to take him out of games. Hakeem could hurt a team from anywhere.

Actually looked back at KKK's first round matchup and I remember really wanting to vote for Fish, but he had Allen Iverson on his team as a starter.
