I feel like since the 2003 class entered their prime the NBA is way deeper tjust as deep as in the early 90s when the Celtics, Lakers and Pistons retired/broke apart.
The Bulls faced so many different teams in the finals...And with Barkley's teams it wasn't even close. Losing in 5 and 6 games in consecutive years on different teams and afterwards not even making it out of the 2nd round is weak!
If you followed the Mavs championship run and what happened in the next seasons it's str8 up ridiculous to downplay it. They swept the Lakers, who were amongst favorites to repeat. They weren't out of shape or injured. They simply got outplayed. After that the Mavs toyed with the Thunder, who made it to the Finals the following season with the same roster. Last but not least they str8 up lit up the Heat and taught them what 4th quarter basketball and crunchtime means. The Heat learned and went on to win the next couple of chips.
I don't know what you talkin' bout but that was one of the toughest roads to a chip.
But I'll stop it at this point. Hit me with a good argument or a PM or whatever if you want to continue it. People love prejudices and hate diligent work based on facts :D

We argue how Barkley can't stop Dirk, but what about the other way around? How is Dirk going to contain the energy, toughness, and power that is Barkley? Barkley would destroy Dirk in transition, off the dribble, in the post, etc. Dirk can't guard Barkley either.

When Dirk is on he is nearly unstoppable, is he going to be able to turn it on though when he has to share so many possessions with a Hall of Fame cast?
 
I love Jason Kidd(hold over from the 90's) and Dirk is a great pf but Barkley played against the best bigs of All-time in their prime. To pretend that Dirk would best Barkley for his size is to spit in the face of Karl Malone.
The league is getting better and I credit the Mavs for showing the rest of the NBA what a team can do when they don't play Iverson basketball. Having said that I can't see Dallas winning a Championship in the 90's.
 
I think Barkley/Dirk is mostly a wash. They are both great and they will both score on each other.

I think Spy really wins with Wade and Hakeem.

Shaq was the most dominant big ever, but Hakeem was more consistent and has less weak links in his game.

Wade is clearly better than Harden due to resume.
 
brings back great sir charles memories (I grew up a sixers fan). He had such amazing athleticism and quickness first step and into the air. Better than a certain Clippers PF, in my opinion

How far does Hakeem's jump shot extend? He was decent out to 15, correct?
 
It's close but I'd say Barkley is slightly the better PF. Yes he was undersized but he still managed to have crazy rebound numbers in a much more physical NBA. I just don't like Dirk's mediocre defense, rebounding and low FG%.

However, I'd take Garnett over both of them as he is(was) a more complete player than both Dirk and Barkley. He was one of the best defensive big men of the NBA history while also providing offensively almost as much as Dirk and Barkley did.

I see Dirk as the most unstoppable.

Barkley as the most offensively consistent and reliable.

KG as the best defensive force, but not as refined offensively as either of them.

Now again we argue in the context of KKK vs spycam? Let me look at it like this:
Dirk will let Barkley shoot long range shots. He won't hit them - Np. If he wants to post up or Wade can feed him the ball. Even if their life depended on it. They wouldn't hit a 3 and Grant Hill wasn't a shooter in his prime. So triple K has Kidd or Harden attack him in the post. As stated previously, Barkley is a below average to bad ball handler and only slightly above average passer, which would result in many TO's when doubled. The outside pass would land at 31% three point shooter on 2.7 attempts / game Payton or a 29% shooter Wade at 1.8 / game. No negative side effects of doubling Barkley. Even if he came near, he'd have to make a pivot to get in front of Dirk or would have his release and shooting form altered just by his size. There's no old vid analysis I can find if he's preferring a specific shoulder over which he attacks. But if there is one, Dirk would know it and only offer that side to go by. So how's Barkley going to be efficient aside the fastbreak, which is the only valid argument. But as it's a 7 game series and playoff basketball is way more halfcourt than transition oriented it's a diminished argument even.
Oh I almost forgot the PnR. Jason Kidd is one of the best PnR defender in the history of the game and would contain their primary ballhandler. And as bad as Harden is defensively at this point of his career, you can go under every screen vs Wade...I wonder what passing lane he's going to choose then for a 6'6" roll man?
Another strength of his the movement w/o the ball is also diminished by spycam not having a good point guard.
So Barkley wouldn't stand a chance...

Dirk is a career 58% Trueshooter and 51.1% effective field goal percentage guy. Shooting 3's of course affects your absolute FG% negatively...And read above: Dirk's defensive rebounding is just a notch below Garnett's. In 50 possessions, Garnett grabs one defensive board more. Garnett was a bad offensive guy, just look at his numbers. A career 110 ORtg player, and only 105 in playoffs. Compare that to Dirk's 117 in regular season and 118 in playoffs. That's str8 up mediocre.
