2. Derrick Favors (23), Restricted Free Agent- Favors intrigues because he is a big man who can play both positions, but is just scratching the surface of his potential. He has done well in limited minutes for the Jazz, yet Favors still has enough mystery to make a middle ground on an extension somewhat hard to find at this juncture. Fortunately we should get the chance to see him play enough to answer these questions after the departures of both Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap. If he makes it all the way to restricted free agency, look for a team that misses out on James to make him a big offer.

Do you think someone might offer a near-max deal to Favors? Don´t see that happening. 12-14 mill a year, tops. Quite interesting to see Favors being considered one of the top free agents in 2014. I see the Jazz matching any offer if he doesn't get extended before the season. Hopefully we won't be screwed by some team with cap space (damn you Portland! i remember you...)

I was hoping to get Hayward and favors in for around 10 mil ea

Your dreaming, especially with the George extension and the talk of the Kings possibly offering Cousins the max.

I think that they are worth about 22 million a year combined.

I've been saying it forever.

Favors is getting the max.

He is an elite defender who has a pretty good offensive game with tons of room for improvement. He isnt as inept on the offensive end as people make him seem. He has a soft touch and some pretty good moves. His weaknesses are fouling, which I believe will improve with more playing time.

Unless Favors improves A LOT this season we would be absolute fools to give him the Max. Giving George and Cousins max contracts is just absolute insanity. I expect that kind of crap from Sacramento, but Indiana should know better. You are going to lock in Cousins and George for 5 years at an average of 16 per for 5 years? Make some other team commit to that first. THEN make your decision.
I'm not even convinced that Favors is better than Kanter or Hayward. Until he puts that to rest, slot him at most 12.5, 13.5 if they still let you frontload.
We will probably end up maxing Kanter, however. It is some comfort that we have done a good enough job with our cap that we could give maxes or near maxes to Favors and Kanter and a good contract to Hayward and still be financially healthy.

You say "tons of room for improvement" like it is an asset. Awesome.

Because he still has potential. He is still very young and big men develop slower. You are also forgetting than he couldn't get off the bench no matter what he did because of the bigs situation. His progress could have slso been slowed by the way he was played. I also should have probably not used tons.

BTW, Gordon is at Nro. 12...

"12. Gordon Hayward (24), Restricted Free Agent- Unfairly an afterthought when most national writers talk about the Jazz, Hayward has worked his way into being a very important part of a team that should be relevant for years to come. We still have to wonder if he can become either a lead scorer or a more versatile defender, but he provides value on the perimeter and will only improve over the next few seasons.¨

12 million for rebounds, put backs and plantar fasciatis?
I thought the new CBA was supposed to reign in that sort of madness.

Anyways Favors, Kanter, Gobert. Something has to give.

If he gets the max, it had better be with another team. When you get ready to offer a player a max deal, forget what other teams are doing, but ask yourself, "Is this guy one of the two guys I can pay, that will take me to, and win me a title game?"

If he can't carry you offensively, he isn't a max player. If we hit Feb, Favors is averaging 18 and 9 with 46% fg and he wants a max deal...trade him. That isn't good enough. Those are Jefferson numbers. We don't want to go through that again.
