So which Jazz big guys are injured? Kanter is ready to play and rumor has it that Marvin is ahead of schedule. Perhaps Gobert 's foot isn't ready yet. I doubt he makes the team but it seems as though the Jazz have plenty of big guys.
Jazz have been looking at players at all positions. They have 2-3 guys signed to non guaranteed contracts right now.
Jones, Machado and who?
Looks like only those two right now. Several guys getting workouts and camp invites though. I am a big fan of the Jazz continously looking for new talent. You never know.
SLUMen'sBasketball: Congrats to former Lion Brandon Fortenberry on going to mini-camp with the Utah Jazz. #BF5 #LionNation #LionUp #SELU

Jones is 30 so I would not exactly call him new talent.
Great one guy is not new (I was using that in a "to the Jazz" way). Would you call McNeal, Clark, Machado, Fortenberry, Earl Barron, DJ Richardson, James Nunnally, Xavier Silas, Justin Holliday...potential new talent. They have all either worked out for the Jazz or have been signed at some point this summer.
The point is that the Jazz are not content to just sit pat. They are clearly showing that they are looking under every rock for a new talented player.
Not trying to say your point is wrong, but just on Jones. Dont think we have done a very good job since Matthews of uncovering hidden talent, but maybe one of these guys will turn out well.
It is true that there have been no breakthrus since Matthews but they seem to be actively looking which is proimising.
The thing with Wes is that he got extremely lucky to have CJ hurt during preseason. If CJ doesn't get hurt, Wes doesn't get minutes, gets cut and is a perennial DLeaguer and homey would be shouting to give him a tryout.
Maybe they will restructure his deal and invite him to camp after all on a non-guaranteed deal with a later expiration date than the start of the season?
Locke said he got a big offer from Europe and that the Jazz let him out of the contract.
Possibly. But you never know what you will find.
Make a list of all the undrafted players that have had the impact that Matthews did in their rookie seasons. It's not like there are a bunch of these players every year just waiting to be discovered. Only a handful of undrafted players, 2nd round picks, players from the D-League and unrestricted players from Europe, China, etc. contribute even marginally for NBA teams. If even one of those players from the 10th-15th spot on the roster averaged 10 mins/per that would be an overwhelming success. I'd say Lindsey already deserves credit for swooping in and winning the bidding war for Clark. Machado is a good reach. McGuire might contribute some mins. What I'd really like to see is a couple of these players stick and the Jazz offload Rush, Jefferson and Williams for draft picks. I'd add Biedrins to that list but his value is < 0.Not trying to say your point is wrong, but just on Jones. Dont think we have done a very good job since Matthews of uncovering hidden talent, but maybe one of these guys will turn out well.
