I'm beginning to worry that Burke will be a bust. He doesn't seem to set up the offense very well, dribbling too much, and seems to be unable to know what to do next -- he seems very tentative about penetrating as well, as if he's not confident in his ability to make decisions on the fly, which is important for a point guard. That was something I liked about Schroeder in the little I saw of him, he went in with abandon and was able to find people in a split-second.
 
I start to think he could be a bust, but then I realize we've only seen him in 5 summer league games and a team scrimmage. Can we at least wait until he plays a good amount of regular season games first?
 
I don't think he'll be a bust. I think he's still getting used to NBA range and spacing. I don't think he has the confidence to blow by people like he did in college due to the size, length and speed of the players he's going against in the NBA. He looks like a guy that's going to need a pick to shake his defender and know where players are in the system. He may not score a whole lot of points for a while, but he's still the best PG we've had in a while.

I still think he needs to get stronger and work on his explosiveness and moves going to the rim.
 
I think Burke was still the right pick in the draft. Schroeder might turn out to be the better player in the long run, but Burke should give us enough floor balance to be able to draft any BPA with our top pick in this next coming draft. McCollum is a good shooter, but not as natural a playmaker.

Who the **** has Burke rated as anything even decent around here nowadays?

Way to say this now instead of run-up and aftermath of the draft. LOL.
 
Not sure anyone expects alot more than Conley. At least I hope not. I like him and excited to have him, but he is not an all star and he is not a bust.
 
If it means anything Corbin said in an interview today that Burke is too nervous when he has played in games. He said that he's been doing a lot better in practice and that they just need to get him use to in game play.

Which makes perfect sense. He's probably putting a lot of pressure on himself trying to learn all the jazz plays and where he's to pass/when to shoot, instead of playing his natural game. I hope he can get it figured out I really like him as a player. He's got a good work ethic and when he doesn't like something he'll fix it, he also has great leadership. That's probably another thing he's struggling with not being the top dog.
 
He was drafted seven, (edit: corrected to 9 in later posts. oops) not top 3, so if he starts in the league more than half time he will be living up to his draft position. Any expectations beyond that are the desperate yearning of John Stockton fans. And incidentally, I am fine with this level of output. I've pointed out before that we can only afford to pay over ten mil to four players at the most, more likely 3. Those players will be Hayward, Favors, Kanter, and Burks. If Burke plays at an all star level, then say goodbye to one of these four players. A truly balanced team includes three stars, a few solid players and filler. You have heard the phrase 'too many chiefs and not enough Indians? That's what happens when you get too many ball dominant players on the team, so it's just fine if any of our five starters is less than advertised, as long as three of them turn out to be something special.

I've always been saying this too (Burke was drafted at 9 though). I just want him to be a solid player.

I'm nervous about it too. My biggest worry is how small and slow he has seemed to play in the summer leage.

I hope he is good and I think it was the right pick I suppose, but I'm not feeling as good about it as I was when he first got drafted.


On the bright side though, Gobert and Neto looked great. If they turn out good then the draft was a success regardless if Trey busts.
 
I think he will be a bust, unless he isn't.

LMAO at people trying to be the smart person that was the first to see Burke as a bust, then the rest of the year they will criticize him to validate their bust claims.

Also considering Minny took Derrick Williams before Kanter, I think we lucked out BIG TIME with that one.
