Evans balled out tonight?

Yup.
And I'm not surprised in the least.
Every time he has played in the past seasons he has produced.... he has a bad rep by lots of people but he is actually pretty consistent.

And he didn't just develop a jump shot, I have seen him hitting jumpers in past seasons.... he just didn't get many opportunities to attempt them
Last year if evans took a jumper and missed, then he woild be yanked so he tried not to shoot em much but when he did take them he seemed to make a good percentage

As long as Favors or Gobert has Evans' back, it's almost okay that bigger forwards can push him down and try to post. Otherwise, Evans looked like a decent rebounder. He's clearly stronger and more confident now, and he's just as quick off the floor.

Jeremy's biggest flaw remains his positioning and spacing, though tonight it looked much improved. Still, there were a few times when he would leave the area around the basket to go stand near the three point line. It's one thing to do that if you're setting a screen, but he wasn't. Couple of those times, he actually received the ball, but he just passed it to the nearest Jazz player. I wouldn't have an issue with this, but he's absolutely no threat out there. His jumper still isn't that reliable, and it's not like he's prime Kirilenko so that defenders all soil their pants when he has the ball above his head in the high post because they know it'll soon be a layup for someone. He also doesn't really know how to put it on the floor, so of course the only thing he does is pass it to a guy on the left or the right.

It almost looks like he's trying to hard to do textbook stuff and be useful instead of focusing on what his role should be. Bang down low a bit, stay close to the rim for putbacks.

Spazz look at the date of Hack's post He wasn't talking about last night's game.

He looked better last night, his mobility on the wing was improved. It used to be that whenever he got the ball on the wing he would stand there like a deer in headlights for a few seconds and then clumsily pass the ball to someone. In the game last night, he tried to drive, or looked for the better pass leading to some sort of offense. Also, his shot looks almost like a guards now, and he nailed it with confidence. I really do hope that he develops into a 3/4 who can guard larger 3 players because that would give the Jazz a much more athletic younger player. He does need to extend his shot to the 3 line and keep working on that lateral quickness fella.

In short, his game has exceeded the ceiling that I thought he had. If he gets a bit better than this, than I say give him actual regular minutes on the floor.

Always liked Evans. I'm excited to see him get more minutes. Really glad to see his jump shot improvement!

What now haters?

Thought he couldn't shoot?

No, you know who can't shoot and who sucks. Its Marvin.

Calm down man, it's just a preseason game against a team who has got tired legs. Evans role will not increase due to his body type and inconsistent shooting. You are gonna blame him when everyone posts up on him while pushing him off easily. He's just who he's. An energy guy playing some min due to injuries, garbage time, foul problems.

This is an interesting position. I'm with you on him having a specific body type and being inconsistent on the shooting end. But that belies the idea that he can't improve with hard work. I think he has a very big chance of being a one dimensional player who can't contribute in a meaningful way but what I saw last night made me think positive of him.

Is your position that he can't change and be a serviceable player for the Jazz?

Well, he can be 4th big coming off the bench but it's not due to his quality but rather than our roster structure. It's been more a while he has not been improving some current areas such as shooting, dribbling after PnR, post up defense and awareness on the court. So, better to accept him as who he's now and enjoy alley oops

I don't think you're understanding my question. Yes, Evans has been on the team for three years and, yes, he has not shown much improvement those three years but his playing time has been limited. Many players don't improve until their 3rd year. There are numerous examples of this. So, again, are you saying that you feel Evans CAN"T improve? Your post makes it sound that you're just writing him off.
