Core 4 (or 5) comparisons

The idea here is to gauge what players this board thinks members of the Core 4 (or 5) should be emulating. In essence what is a realistic target for them to hit given their skill sets or developing skill sets.

I'll start:

Alec Burks: Jamal Crawford. Both are somewhat low efficiency scorers who have middling outside games but serve a useful purpose as a bench energizer. Jamal is more useful because he's had better secondary contributions besides scoring. If Burks can follow the Crawford path he'll have a long and useful career.

Gordon Hayward: Matt Harpring. I'm not kidding. I'm talking about pre-injury Harp of course. Harpring took advantage of increased offensive opportunities when he first came to Utah and blossomed before destroying his legs. Hayward is, believe it or not, about the same size and could scrap for rebounds as well as Harp while retaining his playmaking abilities on the wing. Harp had the skill set (before his MLA days) that would complement Hayward's current game to push him to be a 20+ PER player and in the conversation to be an all-star.

Derrick Favors: Moses Malone. His defense is fine and is coming along so well that no one can say he won't get there. But Moses is the gold standard for this kind of broad shouldered bull-of-a-man kind of player on the other side. Favors should resist people telling him to become something he's not an embrace what he is: a beast that must be fouled every time he gets up a head of steam. I don't believe Favors will ever be as good as Moses, but that's the tape he should be watching.

Enes Kanter: Godzilla. Self-explanatory.

Enes Kanter - Dirk Nowitzki. Kanter is big, long, he can shoot that 15 foot jumper, PLUS he already has a repertoire of post-moves that he could pull off whenever he needs to. He needs to channel the Dirk Nowitzki within himself and go into that scoring mode. Inside/outside game, draw fouls, etc. He has the weapons. He just needs to go out and use it.

Derick Favors - Karl Malone. You're a physical specimen. All you needed to do is go out and BE A MAN out there on the floor. Grabbing rebounds. Blocking shots. Dunking on people.

Gordon Hayward - Kevin Durant. Yes seriously. He needs to be a knock down 3pt shooter who can make plays for others when he's double teamed. He has already worked on being more physical and drawing fouls, and that's what Durant does best.

Alec Burks - James Harden. They're both physical & attacking guards who likes to have the ball in their hands to either make plays or score at the rim and/or draw fouls. Burks just need to be more patient and play smarter. His goal this year should be winning the 6th Man of the Year award.

Trey Burke - Chris Paul. NOT Allen Iverson. I repeat. NOT ALLEN IVERSON (who Burke admitted is his childhood idol). Steady hand at the PG position. Look to pass first and foremost THEN the offense will come to him. Shoot only when no other options are available and make sure you sink that 3pter consistently.

You guys remind me of guys who try to convince themselves that some chick that they are with is hot. You have to reallllly squint your eyes to see these comparisons.

I picture Favors as more of a Shawn Kemp type player. He is not as "bullish" as Moses was, and he is more athletic. If he could be a Kemp with a stronger inside game and better size (and more mentally stable) that would be something.

Trey Burke - Chris Paul. NOT Allen Iverson. I repeat. NOT ALLEN IVERSON (who Burke admitted is his childhood idol). Steady hand at the PG position. I see nothing wrong with his idol being Iverson. Everyone around that age who are about 6foot has Iverson as their idols. He was cool and you can't deny that. Anyway Burke has convinced me that he will look for the pass more.

Enes Kanter: Marc Gasol/Shaq

Derrick Favors: Dwight Howard/Wilt Chamberlain

Gordon Hayward: Larry Bird/Scottie Pippen

Alec Burks: Michael Jordan/Space Jam Michael Jordan

Trey Burke: John Stockton/Isiah Thomas

Those are ceiling/floor comparisons, by the way.

Sans skin color and ****ed up hair, of course.

But I suppose the thread is about who our players should be emulating, or study extensively.

I'd much rather have Hayward emulate Ginobli, tbh.

Hayward - Manu
Burke - Zeke, or Chris Paul
Kanter - Olajuwon or McHale, offensively.
Burks - scoring ability and penetration of Ellis, but hopefully not the chucking, or the low FG%
Favors - harder to peg this one. Maybe Zo.

Enes Kanter - Dirk Nowitzki with better post-up game
Favors - Chris webber
Hayward- he sucks bros i hate him
Alec Burks- kobe bryant
Allen Iverson-Trey burke

yey not trey burke - allen iverson.

cuz iverson with 2014 rules better than any pg played the game.

That's "moped" is all.

If you want to compare this to wags then it's more like what super diet and exercise routine she should go on, or what plastic surgeon to visit. If you want Favors hips don't lie then have him watch Shakira, if you want his hips to got that moves like Howard then watch Dwight.

Hayward - Larry bird. killer shooting game but great passer and decent rebounder. mr clutch.

favors - Shawn kemp with out the mental problems. dominates on physical ability.

Burke - isaiah Thomas quick penetrating pg that controls the tempo of the game.

kanter - Alonzo mourning. fantastic footwork that can score from any where. also very good defender.

burks - I think the Jamal Crawford is a great fit. games are very similar.

Jeremy Evans - Scottie Pippen a do everything sf. if he can be anything close to a Pippen lite he will be a diamond in the rough.

Gobert - mutombo changes a game defensively. thrives on stopping people from scoring. finger wag wouldn't hurt

Favors - more athletic Tyson Chandler
Kanter - a bigger Zack Randolph
Hayward - less athletic version of Scotty Pippen
Burks - more athletic Jeff Malone (both great at creating offense in sticky situations, just doing it differently both are unorthodox)
Burke - a smaller weaker version of Deron Williams

The OP doesn't stop at emulation. It also states that these comparisons should be "realistic targets."

You honestly think this?
