Based on 1st 3 games of preseason, if I am the Jazz I do not extend either one before the start of the season.

I think highly of both but I do not see the improvement from the summer.

Hayward always starts cold for 2 months...seems on track.

Favors can't stay on the floor.

I would take my chances with both as a restricted free agent next summer.

BTW, this is Ty's last contract year as well I think....would put him in same bucket.

Was going to post the same thing, but at a diffrent angle. I believe both are going to be very good players. They were both hoping for good pre season games so as the deadline approached the jazz would feel pressure to get something done. I think at this point the jazz can likely make their case that they are not 11m-max level players. We should be trying to buy low and extend now.

As for Ty.... He won't make it through the season.

Predictions on what they are worth?

For me I think Hayward could still get 7 to 9 million and Favors 8 to 10 million.

I just posted in the game thread that Jordan is making under 11 million this season. In last nights game he was the best big followed by Griffin. Both Jazz starting big men didn't even compare IMO. So what is Favors really worth?

I think right in the middle of your evaluation. I also think their agents might just bite because if the do not show great improvement from the preseason now that they are both featured players, all their leverage is gone.

If I am Jazz I offer

Favors - 10 MM

Hayward - 8 MM

Both will(should) decline

I agree with this. But I keep wondering what causes both these guys to not perform at a higher level. In all honest, I see Favors as a kid who forces the issue too much. Tries too hard and looks bad doing it. A contradiction I know. But last year coaches like Horny were telling him to allow the game to flow and come to him. And in that time frame I think played better. Rewind to 3 years ago against the spurs in the playoffs, he was a rookie. Didn't force anything, just went out there and played and was the best player on our team that series.

We definitely need a new coach. Ty just isn't getting enough out of these guys. I have a feeling if the team starts to fall apart, old Jer will be asked to come to the rescue.

As a tangent: Jeff's Suns are shooting 55% fg and 43% 3pt through preseason so far. Is this Jeff's schema or is it Luck?

And I agree that they decline but I wouldn't offer more

Don't want ol Jer back

Ty is better than Sloan and Pop. Just no one can see it because his brilliance is buried in lots of externalities. He is truly better and smarter than anyone else, it is just that it is so understated it is hard to see unless you possess similar basketball brilliance to be able to see it.

Based on 3 preseason games... LOL. It would have been better to start out your argument..based on the last 3 years I think Hayward and Favors deserves X amount.

Right now Favors earns $7 million and change and Hayward is almost $5 million (didn't check). So hopefully the Jazz are not dumb enough to double their salaries. I think the Jazz should extend both players $9 million for Favors and $7million for Hayward. Neither deserves anything close to the Max.

If they fail this year to lead the team I would cut even more off the offer.

If you are the Jazz, you want Hayward to play awful the next couple of games. Put some pressure on him to sign an extension. I'd offer him 4 years 36 million. Fair deal, probably a little low. BUT, if he continues to struggle, then it starts to look like a good, safe bet on his part. If he turns it down, and bombs this year, he could end up getting less. But at the same time, if he plays as well as he has or a little better, he could get around 10-12 million a year. BUT, if he blows out his knee he could get a lot less.

That 36 million starts to look really good. As in the extra 4-7 million is worth risking 36 million, especially when he can still get 1-2 more big deals after this one.
