Your insight is amazing. I never would have viewed Malone in that context compared to nearly every other HOFer (John Stockton is possibly his only match by his own weirdo antics).

Pretty much all of this. Burks has shot beyond abysmally this preseason and he didn't really look that good in summer league. I cringe every time he shoots the ball, and I have no idea why his shot is so bad right now. I have always questioned his BB-IQ, and the explanation in this video shows you why (starting at 40). What the hell is he talking about?

I am forever amazed at Karl Malone's BBIQ. He's possibly the dumbest HOFer of all time yet the guy was a genius on the court. I don't get how he seems near retarded at everything outside basketball while being a genius inside it. The guy can hardly convey a sentence in an interview -- I'm pretty sure he's addicted to drugs with all the foggy brain talk and emotional breakdowns over not getting tickets.

Karl's essence is discipline and work, and this in itself along with a hall of fame coach probably drilled the stuff into his head. He also understood the rather primitive culture of the NBA, which seems like more a culture of shame than today. You listen to any of the Dream Team guys talk and you can get it right away except for maybe Stockton and D. Robinson.

As for Burks, I've always really liked him. I think he is the perfect 6th man for most teams. Although, I think the Jazz need to focus on bringing in players who are a little more cerebral and less wild. Even Burks interviews are all over the place. I wonder how long he can keep his head still for? hehe

Seriously, I don't mind the Jazz keeping him and playing him at all. I just see him as part of a trade, at some point down the line. I could be wrong.

Karl is awesome! He makes some great points. However, the physicality of the game has changed quite a bit since he played. Players are more interested in being buddies than destroying their opponents. It's been heading that way for a long time now. Still, that is a good point not to advertise where you're hurt. If you can't play without the extra stuff then maybe that player shouldn't be out there playing yet? Then again, some guys don't tell people when they're hurt. The vicious cycle! Ahhh! lol

LOL, yeah. Him and Sloan were the best. Frank Layden was awesome but I was still too young to appreciate and remember his repertoire.

Zulu, You gotta trust me when I say that though Burks has great potential, he will never shoot a high FG% (Likely under 42% his entire career) and he will struggle to be a part of a team concept. He has no understanding of effective off-ball play and he doesn't want to be a great or perhaps even good defender. It hurts me to say this because back in 2011 I had huge hopes for the guy, but it is what it is. Would not be surprised to see Burks traded this year while he still might be able to merit some intrigue from other teams.

What an amazing luxury Sloan had with Stockton and Malone leading his team. They were both true professionals. They worked hard, didn't give excuses, and just got the job done. Karl still looks like he could play in the league. While I didn't appreciate Malone's off court antics, on court he always did give 100%. Hopefully he can pass on his work ethic to Kanter and Favors. If so I think we are in for a great many years of Jazz basketball.

I am not often in agreement with Franklin...But regarding Burks I am. I don't see why so many fans love him. I don't see much more than an out of control ball hog on at least half of the possessions he gets the ball. The guy has athleticism and talent. But seems incapable of or unwilling to play a team oriented game. I am far from sold on him being anything but a scorer off of the bench and a possible 6th man role.
