Coach K hates the Jazz

As an American, I wouldn't like to think that an American team would want to lose or create situations where you would want to lose. I can't even fathom -- I can't go there. I can't believe that that would happen. Maybe I'm naive and I'm going to go read a fairy tale after this.

How nice it would be to be able to win it all and still get all top recruits. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way for us.

Well you're kind of dealing with two different perspectives when you can recruit any player in the country with a name brand like Duke behind it - as opposed to the NBA where the system is set up to give the worst teams the the best player.

Having said that I'd personally give Coach K a weekly tuggy if he agreed to coach The Jazz.

I'm sure a couple people around here may up that ante.

College doesn't draft. He hasn't had the same desperation for a star that the bottom half of the NBA knows. Every year the college game sees its best players leave while new ones replace them; in the NBA, guys like Lebron will play for 20 yrs.

Self righteous *** hat just doesn't want to lose Jabari.

He is simply denying the eternal principle of human behaviors. Build a draft system that rewards tanking, and teams that have no prospects will be reinforced to tank to get a better draft position. He is also denying the fact that franchises look far to the future, something that colleges can't and don't really do beyond coaching and recruiting. To recruit a college has to win now and win all the time, but for-profit franchises have to look at the balance sheet beyond this season, and take steps that might be detrimental now to win in the future. It is a totally different model and he just doesn't get it.

The current system does not reward tanking as much as the old system did. The Jazz could have the worse record and get the 4th pick which would suck big time. Before if you had the worse record you got the number 1 pick. Coach K isn't nice all the time and he is living in a glass house if he thinks the NBA and NCAA are the same. I am sure if he was coaching the Lakers he would sell his first kid to get Parker or Wiggins.

He's talking about teams/players that want to lose. Who honestly wants to lose? I sure as hell don't.

4th pick is still great--likely Exum or Parker. Many scouts say Exum would go #1 if he was in US playing college now, so he could be seen by everyone to build the same hype.

Picks 1-4, and you have a franchise talent. After that, talent drops, but still good players like Marcus Smart, Aaron Gordon, Andrew Harrison, WCS, Embid, Selden, Young, etc. who will all likely star ib fair share of all-star games

This.

Of course he'd say that, who wouldn't?

But better believe that if he understands at all how the NBA works, he doesn't believe it for a second.

Investment and time horizon

Business #1 is losing money. They decide to go out and hire top technical and marketing people, train the people they have, and expand their plant for growth.

Business #2 is also losing money. They fire some people, stop training programs, and make no investments in innovation

Scorecard after year 1: Business #2 makes a little money, business 2 is tanking.

Is business #1 immoral? All the managers and workers in Business #1 are trying to make money and win this year, but their time horizon for large profits is just a bit different.

Looking back on Durant's rookie season, was OKC the "loser" that year? Need to take a step back and see the bigger picture to see the winners and losers.
