It's more likely that he is just an inconsistent player. Why would he hurt his own market heading into restricted free agency? This certainly isn't helping him. Still, there is probably a team stupid enough to give him more than he is currently worth.

But that would hurt him more than it would the Jazz presumably. He's trying to do too much and he isn't the player the franchise is trying to paint him as. He is not a #1 option on a contender. He's not a #2 option on a contender. It's questionable whether he is a #3 option on a contender. Like I said, he's inconsistent and probably trying to do too much.
 
He could continue to be inconsistent and he'd still get an overvalued contract offer just because of the potential he flashes from time to time. I'm even counting on it.

Rubbish. Players always try harder in a contract year, they don't deliberately play worse to get a better contract. Hayward isn't playing well mainly because he's just not that good. And he'll get an offer according to how he performs overall, not based on his occasional good game. You can count on that.
