A U.S. District Court judge has sided with the polgyamous Brown family, ruling that key parts of Utah’s polygamy laws are unconstitutional.

Judge Clark Waddoups’ 91-page ruling, issued Friday, sets a new legal precedent in Utah, effectively decriminalizing polygamy. It is the latest development in a lawsuit filed by the family of Kody Brown, who became famous while starring in cable TV channel TLC’s reality series "Sister Wives." The showentered a fourth season at the end of the summer.

Now taking applications for legit 2nd and 3rd options.

You wouldn't even have to invite anyone else to poker games in a few years if you got a nice polygamist clan going.

Damn I need to move back to Utah, stat!

All this does is legalize the Three's Company situation. Big deal. Who hasn't slept with multiple female roommates at once?

Oh wait, Mormons, I guess.

I'm all for freedom of religion except cults like polygamy. I fully support federal agents setting up permanent shop inside polyg communities as an outlet for sister wives to escape through.

No problem with secular polyg/andry, or religious if it's not secluded from society.

Right, and his ruling throwing out the part of the law that makes cohabitation Illegal effectively decriminalizes plural marriage.

derp

Are you freaking stupid? Marriage is a legal contract into which you can currently only enter with one person at the time. Where in the **** does this article suggest that suddenly, you will not be prosecuted if you contract two legal marriages at the same time? The article says so itself:

Utah’s bigamy statute technically survived the ruling. However, Waddoups took a narrow interpretation of the words "marry" and "purports to marry," meaning that bigamy remains illegal only in the literal sense — when someone fraudulently acquires multiple marriage licences.

So, no, you cannot get married to two women at once. Not in the eyes of the law.

Or two men. Maybe franklin wants to have a bro-ho.

I see where you're going and I tend to agree.

I'm quite sure heyhey is aware that bigamy is still illegal. Do you appreciate the difference between "decriminalize" and "legalize", and why the former does not imply the latter?
