What's new

I'd rather have Korver at the two than hayward

I have always liked Korver. I was on team Korver when everyone else was on team CJ Miles-is-the-next-MJ-you-just-wait-and-see. With Korver he always was what he was and fairly consistent with it. He put forth effort on D, played within the offense and had a deadly 3 pt stroke. What team doesn't need one of those? Now if Hayward can settle his shot down, he could be near-Korver level of a shooter, but with far more ability in other parts of his game. The big question is the "if". I think we will see more and more as this season progresses what we have, especially as he gets comfortable with Burke and plays more within his role. If I had to pick right now, I would take Korver hands down. But with what we have seen Hayward do at times, if he can move more in that direction, then Hay will be twice the player Korver ever was. But he has to get out from under that "if" hanging over his head.

I agree with you in part. Kirilenko was so much fun to watch in his prime!

Yeah, for that half a season we all thought we had THE next superstar. Definitely fun to watch.

Did you like him even after the three point record getting revelation?

Which revelation was that? Do you have a link? I have heard lots of fans say that Korver modified his game play during his last season with us to get the 3 pt percentage record, and now that he is taking ill-adivsed shots to keep the consecutive games streak alive. I don't know if I buy into either one, frankly.

Too old to find a link but Korver admitted he stopped shooting to get the record his first year with chicago.

Even if he did not say anything anyone who watched those last couple game knew what was happening, he passed up shots he normally took left and right.

Hayward has been Wayward about half the year it seems like.. Bythe gets his playing time unlike most of our other core guys (confused) He has been going through these 3-4 game streaches where he shoots just awful ... I see alot of hype around Trey but he has some simular shooting streaches ... both players seriously need to improve both their shot selection and shooting % last thing we need is a bunch of AI or Carmelo type players jacking up shots

I don't know about Hayward, but Trey is a rookie and a pg at that. Rookie PG never shoot well.

True I understand he isnt going to be perfect.... but were seeing a few games where he's shooting like around 10% ... I think his strongest skill so far is the fact Trey hardly ever turns the ball over

Yes, Trey has shown Hayward-like consistency issues recently...but given he hasn't even played 20 games in his NBA career yet, I'll give him a pass. OTOH, Hayward is in his 4th season, and his shooting percentage has progressively dropped each season, hard to keep making excuses for a "veteran"...

*shrug* Hayward's usage rate has risen every season, so a lower FG% is expected.

Not that this has anything, really, to do with the thread, but Korver was rather underappreciated. He was our best defensive wing (this includes the beloved Kirilenko) but often go overlooked and stereotyped for, what I can only assume, is the "white guy who shoots = unathletic and bad defender" stigma.

I'll grant you Korver's defense was underrated (mostly from effort), but far, far, far, far, far below AK's

Given DL's love for taking smart 3s (versus KOC/Sloan style), I bet DL wishes we had made an effort to keep Korver in SLC. I think it was a mistake to let him walk, seemingly without a fight, as the team was trying to become more athletic.
