I would much rather have my 14 year old watch y tu mama tambien because it is a far superior movie in my opinion. Furthermore, I would be confident in my parenting ability, and respect my kid enough to not worry about any negative repercussions that may or may not be possible.
How about
1. Lord of the Rings (just as many people got killed)
2. Y tu mama también
(not talking about copyright - talking about level of nudity/sex/violence)
Pretty sure kids can distinguish that the level of fighting in LOTR aren't "real".

In NZ it's rated R18 meaning unless you're 18 and over, you cannot even enter the cinema, not even if you have your parents present.
For LOTR - a bunch of teenagers can just walk right in.
