What are the possibilities of moving up in the 2014 draft

I think most of us would agree that our need in this draft is either Wiggins or Parker. We need a sf more than anything. We also need that first option guy. Parker and Wiggins both fill that need. However, we will need luck on our side to get a top 3 pick. We are assuming that they both go top 3. I dont think anyone disagrees. They probably go 1 and 2, but some are thinking Embiid or Randle could go top 2.

For this exercise though, lets assume that if we want Parker or Wiggins we will have have the 1st or 2nd pick. Lets also assume that we land no less than the 8th pick and the GS pick lands on 24.

At each pick, what is the cost of moving up to the top 2 spots. And would you be willing to part with it?


My example...



3rd pick + GS pick = 2nd pick

4th pick + GS pick + 2nd round pick = 2nd pick

5th pick + GS pick + Kanter = 2nd pick

6th pick + GS pick +Kanter + 2nd round pick = 2nd pick

7th pick + GS pick + Kanter + Burks + 2nd round pick = 2nd pick

8th pick + Kanter + future first = 2nd pick

Didnt put a ton of thought into those trades. Feel free to design your own. Just trying to guage what everyone would thing is fair value and what would help us move up.

I would probably do any of those trades I put out there or some variation of them.

I still have faith that we have a strong chance at this but you never know. We might find ourselves in a tough spot picking between players that dont fill a need.

I don't see ANY team moving out of the top 3 picks for anything less than an All-star and significant draft picks. IMO, the price tag will be way too high. Pretty much everyone sees the top 3-4 players as long-term All Stars. I don't think anyone gives up on that potential for any realistic package. Certainly not what the Jazz can offer.

The Jazz don't have enough talent to pass on any top-flight talent at any position right now.

Also, if you think you there's a good chance that a guy you just drafted will be a perennial all-star, you don't trade them for any combination of anything less.

You could argue that 1-4 is actually 1 tier though. So, it might be possible to go from 3 to 2 or from 4 to 2 with only the GS pick.

I agree that it will be a lot tougher to move from 5,6, or 7 to 2. But Im not sure its impossible. A team might really like Gordon, Smart or Exum and not be so high on the top 4.

Don't think Lindsay is too concerned about what pick Jazz have.
Jazz do not seem to be in panic mode right now.
Keeping Hayward out though may seem to signal some type of attempt to lose games now.
Lindsay seems to be OK with Jazz getting into the top eight right now.

I dont think I would trade Burks or Kanter for any pick outside the top 8 right now. Gotta see more, but dont think that changes.

Burks or Kanter + GS pick better had get us a lot better than the 15th pick.

Okay, if we trade #5 and a player or pick, we might get to #4, but this is assuming we promise to let a player the other team wants slip to #5.

Its conceivable for Hayward to leave in a sign and trade for a 6-8 pick team that thinks they need a ready now player and can't afford to sign him without sending a bad expiring back.

I don't know which team that is but it is my dream scenario ATM.

I don't think this draft is that stellar outside the top 5, tbh. This draft is about getting one of the projected All Stars.
