Earlier in January, we detailed the odd professional existence of Boston Celtics swingman Keith Bogans, who has rarely played for the team in 2013-14. Bogans is being paid a league-average salary as a sign-and-trade throw in, created to make Boston and Brooklyn’s Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce-centered deal NBA salary cap legal last July. This is fine, and some would say lucky, compensation, but because Bogans is a competitor and has an actual beating professional heart, he doesn’t really want to just take the money and not play the game he loves.
Boston, looking to develop a young core that will be hitting its prime years after Bogans retires, has no designs for utilizing Keith Bogans, the player. This is part of the reason why they sent Keith home on Wednesday.

Bogans has played twice since coming clean about wanting to play basketball with Boston, scoring 12 points on 3-4 shooting in a combined 27 minutes in contests against the Thunder and Nuggets, but the Celtics have no real use for him in their rotation.
Now, it appears, they have no real use for him in their locker room.

The Boston Celtics announced today that guard Keith Bogans has been excused from the team indefinitely for personal reasons. Bogans remains under contract with the Celtics during this time.
There’s not much more to add to this, especially two weeks after writing over a thousand words on the subject. Bogans could make in upwards of nearly $16 million between now and 2016 if teams choose to pick up his contract option in order to create more deals like the Garnett and Pierce back and forth, but more than likely he’ll be released by the Celtics after they offer his potentially expiring deal around the league this summer.
