Have "The Core Five" Turned A Corner?

They do seem like they a growing as the season goes a long.


its all so confusing conflicting.

We want to see those guys be good but we want to tank too.


Maybe the Jazz are just planning on pulling the plug once they see what they want to see. It was so bad in the beginning that I can see why they would want to see some wins for a bit. You gotta evaluate the talent and the coach to know what to do next.
 
Favors should block more shots.

Kanter should get more rebounds and block more shots.

More important than their stats (at least to me) is the fact that EVERY night a member of the Core5 puts together a lights-out, blow-up performance whether they win or lose. We're seeing the kind of incredible potential that all of these lottery picks have.

They need consistent minutes, a chance to develop chemistry together and the opportunity to make (and learn from) mistakes without being worried about getting benched in favor of less talented vets. Imagine if the Jazz could rely on a great performance from someone every night for a whole season AND that they all improve as they continue to play together. I think that could be a special team.

I didn't say that it would happen this year. I'm just happy to see the progression. To be perfectly honest, I didn't think that Burks would develop into a guy who could start. In my mind, he was easily the guy on the outside looking in when they add another lottery guy in the upcoming draft.

Now. . . I'm not so sure. If they commit to the Core5, I think that the guys they draft will help round out the bench. (Especially now that it's looking like they'll fall out of the top 5.) I've been really impressed with Burks in the starting lineup, and I like how Kanter has looked lately as well.

I've been hoping for a starting lineup of Burke, Burks, Hayward, Kanter and Favors for this whole season. I hate how Corbin coaches with an emphasis on veterans (who often don't play as well as the young guys.) Hopefully Burks and Kanter keep balling out and FORCE their way into the starting lineup.

That's 87 points a game right there (on average) just generate 20 or so more off the bench and you won't lose too many games. Would like to see a bit more rebounding from this group.

GOBERT off the bench. . .

Honestly think that Kanter on the offensive glass and Favors on defensive should do well rebounding together.
 
Yes they are turning a corner.

It's in large part up to Corbin wether or not they can continue this trend. The next few games all have matchups where Kanter should start, but who knows if Corbin will bench Marvin. After all, Marvin Williams stats for January are an incredible: 26 MPG .368 FG%, 3.8 REB, 1.8 AST, 2 PF, .8 STL, & a whopping 5.8 PTS. How could we ever survive without that? We need him to save us and show our youngins how to ball. Plus, we owe him after the leadership that he has shown.

Seriously though, Marvin is a good guy, who plays hard and through pain--but this is also a contract year for him, maybe why he is playing so hard and through pain.

When do we start owing Kanter and worrying about how benching him may psychologically affect him?

While the core5 looked really good in 2014, they really didn't play together that much all season long. So there would be some growing pains and I don't think that they would win too many games from the beginning. And by the time they are winning your bench just should be really bad! If the team than by the end of the season turns all Portland it shouldn't be a problem because unlike Portland we would have one star add to that group via Draft, the GSW draft pick and as if this wasn't enough we also would have the $ to sign one or two Vets.

If you can pull the trigger just do it. There is no chemistry between the core guys that they would be good from the start and if they are good from the start...than they are even better than we thought!

Derrick is blocking 2.2% of the shots in January which would rank him 77th among PFs and Centers with +200 MIN. So you're right on that one.

Enes is rebounding 20.6% of all available boards which would rank him 5th among PFs and Centers with +200 MIN and he is blocking 2.5% of the shots in January which would rank him 68th among PFs and Centers with +200 MIN. Wrong on the rebounding part, agreed on the blocking. But he never was a great shot blocker anyway.
