do we really want to wait for his mormon mission?

No, he will not go on a mission just like Jimmer didn't at BYU, because they are doing enough missionary work by being a good example in the spotlight they are in.

well the jazz better out tank the tank in Orlando, b/c that's who they have their eyes set on.

I've read in several places that that who ever drafted him would not be able to hold onto his draft rights if he went on a mission. They would expire a year after he was drafted and then technically go into the 2015 draft. The only way to keep draft rights is if the player has a contract with a different league hence foreign players drafted and now playing somewhere else.

Unless there's some rule for missions that I haven't heard of. Anybody know anything else?

Jabari needs to pull a Kobe Bryant. Lakers got Kobe because he told everyone he would not sign with any team EXCEPT the Lakers. Parker needs to say he'll go on a mission UNLESS the Jazz draft him and he can spend his free weekends giving tours at Temple Square. He drops to #8, Jazz draft him and no longer have to worry about THE TANK. Why didn't any of us think of this before? Quick, someone get Lindsey on the line. Oh wait, Dennis isn't allowed contact right now. Quick, someone get PKM on the line. He probably knows a friend of a friend who knows a 2nd cousin of Jabari.

Either way he still couldn't do any other job other then missionary work. It's a 10am to 9pm day for most missions, and that includes SLC.

The LDS Church can think outside the box. He wouldn't need to be called to a traditional mission. If Parker really feels the need to serve an official mission, they could have Jabari giving firesides around the country during the off-season. This isn't a Shawn Bradley type situation. Jabari can have WAY more influence on people by playing in the NBA and showing and professing his value system by the way he conducts himself on and off the court. And can you imagine the impact of playing out his rookie contract - and his RFA year(s) - and then signing with the Jazz, declaring that the reason for doing so is that he wants to live in a state that has strong family values and play for an organization that stresses the same and discourages its players from going to nightclubs, etc.? Whether you agree with the LDS Church or not...and this is not meant as a post to say their beliefs and values are right or worng...I'm just saying I can think of no better way than that for Jabari to have the kind of missionary/ambassadorship impact he desires as a member of the LDS faith.

Is there an actual quote from Jabari that he's still considering a mission? I think if he would have served on he could have just left right out if high school.

Why would he enter the draft after this year anyway under that scenario? More likely, he'd pull a Shawn Bradley and enter the draft straight off a mission. So 2016 draft.

Nope. Kobe really wanted to play for Chicago. LA was not his first choice.

Yes, and he was drafted (#2 if I recall correctly) right after he got back, without having played any basketball at all post-mission.
And ^&%$# BYU in the process. All along he had said he was coming back to school, then he decided to turn pro well after all recruiting had been done and BYU was unable to find even an adequate player at the 5.
