Utah Denied A Wet Bandit Trade???!!

How epic will the meltdown on here be when Marvin signs a 3-4 year deal here next off season? I heard some national guy throw around a 3 year 9 million dollar contract for Marvin. If that is the most he gets in a FA market then I want him to stay with the team. He's worth more than that. I'd even say I want him back at MLE money. Much more than that and he can go. He's not getting 10M per year is he?

Duly noted and agreed with. I think this team needs a player like Mr. Williams.
 
I suspect the Jazz will offer Marvin a 2 year deal worth a total of about $7-8 million and he'd be willing to take it. However, there might be someone willing to give him a mid level exception out there.

Teams do need veterans, glue guys, locker room presences, solid (if unspectacular players), etc. These all come together to form a team in different ways. These type of players have value and can play important, but different roles. By all accounts, Williams appears to be one of these types of players. I've been saying all along that I'm not sure that the Jazz don't see Williams in their LT plans. This seems to confirm that they do, I'm guessing for the types of reasons mentioned above. We view MW as an old guy just because the rest of the team is so young. He's only 27. Williams would be a good fit on a 3-4 yr deal. A contract of that length would expire just as the extra money is needed to re-up Favors (and likely Hayward) and then Kanter, Burks, etc. I doubt he goes for as cheap as $3m/per, but it's still hard to get a read on how this new CBA is impacting contracts. It does seem that vets like Marvin - or even Millsap - are getting squeezed.

If I were a team like Miami, OKC, Clippers, San Antonio, etc. I'd be going after Williams big time in the off-season. I think he could be a very solid contributor on a team with championship aspirations, and he'd come at a very reasonable price. He's a talented player (not #2 draft talent) and offers a lot, including good D, good outside and 3 point shooting (thus the all important spacing), character, and in any game, he can go off for 20+. I gotta believe there's going to be competition to sign him in the off season.
 
If Pacers can't afford to sign Turner and Stephenson, I could see them going after Marvin Williams. He could backup West or George and would be a lot more reasonable salary wise than Turner.

he hustles, hits the boards, hits the open three so he has to be guarded, he allows our young guys to get their shots...

i'd say he's doing a reasonable job.

he'd have a role on the right contender.

at what he's worth to be a part of our plans beyond this season is another discussion.

I guess if any of those teams want to use their full exception to sign him, then they could. My guess is Marvin likes Utah and would like to stay here. Without trades for 2015, and even with Hayward signing a new contract, the Jazz will need to bring in a couple of FA's just to meet the salary floor. If you delete Lucas, Thomas, Clark, Biedrins, Jefferson and Rush from the roster, keep Garrett, put Hayward in at $10M and estimate the payouts for the 3 picks + Neto, Jazz would be at roughly $44M with 12 players. So $8M to spend on 1-3 additional players to reach the salary floor and almost $15M in cap space.

My prediction is the Jazz offer Marvin a declining offer for 2-3 seasons + bring in one additional FA on the same type of contract. Allows Utah to reach the floor, yet retain the financial means to offer Burks and Kanter new contracts without getting into luxury tax territory.
