Aaron Gordon vs. Marcus Smart

With this draft day scenario, who would you want the Jazz to take?

I am a Michigan guy and I believe Burke will make a big jump his sophomore year like he did at UofM. I am not easy at all to write him off. Gordon has the potential to be a great 2-way player.
 
Why not use our cap space to fleece Sacramento out of the 8th pick and draft them both? I think undoing the financial hell that the Kings are in would be worth the 8 pick, and they would be happy to pay it. There ya go.

I'm not ready to replace Burke yet either, so drafting Smart would be for the 2, not for point. It sounds like he's going to have to be a point, and if that's the case we have a good (potentially really good) point already. If its between the two, then I'll go with Gordon's upside. Pretty sure he'll figure out how to shoot free throws.

What are you not following? You brought up tournament success as a red flag that Smart won't be good, so some of us brought up that you could say the same thing about the top 3 prospects. In other words, you're point was not valid. Team success is not always a great indicator of how good prospect is, plain and simple.

I'm not even convinced we should take Smart (I'd probably be fine with Gordon, Smart, or Vonleh), but your arguments against Smart are beyond weak.

I'd love it, but idk what the details of that deal would look like or if Sactown would actually do it.

Fine take the tournament success away, Smart still has too many variables stacked against him and Gordon has one, get better at shooting.

Lol Gordon has soooo much more to work on besides get better at shooting. Look at his usage %. He can't currently create his own shot at a consistent rate in the half court in virtually any way. Not penetrating, not shooting off the dribble, not posting up, not with floaters/runners. His points came purely from: lobs, put backs, spot up jumpers, and in transition. As he is today, he's the definition of a role player. Simply improving his jumper won't change that. There's so much more to becoming a star basketball player than that.

Again, I'm not advocating we don't take Gordon. I'm not sure who we should take. But your assessments of both Gordon and Smart are really bad.

Sounds like the deandre jordan of small forwards.

I do like gordon, for me it's between him and smart. Smart being bpa in my opinion, and gordon filling a position of greater need.

I'm really not sure, tbh. I go back and forth between these guys daily.
