BYU NCAA Violations

I'll strongly maintain the opinion that BYU imposes the HC on it's athletes when the have to, not when they want to.

So you are saying that they had to suspend davies and unga?

They could have let them both play and never even told anyone that they had pre marital sex.

Even after byu chose to make it know that they violated the honor code, the media and everyone else couldnt believe that they were not going to let davies play.... they easily could have slapped him on the wrist and let him compete in the ncaa tournament on a team that desperately needed his inside presence to compliment jimmer.

But they threw the hammer down by choice?

Hell they could just get rid of the honor code alltogether if they wanted to.

They never HAVE to enforce it or have it. It is always a choicr that byu makes whether to enforce it or look the other way (which they do sometimes like you said)

Back to the original point though. They are different from other schools.... and that is extremely obvious to everyon but you apparently

I guess the best answer I could give you is that at the end of the day, BYU is much more similar to other schools than they'd like to admit

There is some truth here im sure...... but they are very different from other schools (unfortunately)

True. I totally missed the part where Hellen went off on non-Mo's, talked about how much better he was because of his religion, etc. thank you for pointing it out; I feel really stupid right now.

Just so nobody else feels dumb like me, I'll quote what thriller said and bold the bad stuff.

This is an example of why it's useful at times to make a distinction between when something is stated explicitly and when something is implied.

No need to feel dumb about it; but I would recommend brushing up on your ability to draw inferences (aka 'reading between the lines').

This is just a case of agree to disagree. I think BYU looked at the risk of playing those 2 knowing the possibility that their infractions may go public at some point down the road, and they elected cover their ***. Like I said, we'll disagree on it but I feel good about my stance. There are decades worth of stories about BYU football players openly breaking honor code and not being punished.

I will admit however that it is happening less and less due to social media and the microscope programs are now under.

This is just a case of agree to disagree.

Not really.
You already said that other schools would not suspend players for having sex with thier girlfriends..... therefore byu is in fact different than other schools even though you originally said that "they are no different" from other schools.

So we both agree that your original statement was incorrect and byu is in fact different from other schools.

And we both agree that byu is less different than they would like to be.

Is it just me, or does this seem like it's not that bad but because BYU puts themselves on a pedestal, the **** is hitting the fan?

Well we don't know how bad it is at this point. How many players? Did Bronco know? Did other coaches know? Where players given money? I am sure some of the criticism vented towards BYU has to do with their "Lord's University" mentality but when you brag about having higher standards then the fall is further down. The anti-BYU coward is hoping for the worse and the pro-BYU apologizes w/o knowing facts and tries to minimize it because they want to believe that BYU is void of human greed. So there is bias on both sides.

I hate BYU with a passion. I just don't get all this "internet" BYU ****ed up so bad ****. Lol.

Well if you attended either BYU or Utah you would probably understand it more. I went to BYU and many of the fans use to annoy me. BYU sports is not evidence that GOD is Mormon. However, many people at BYU think that way. If goes beyond regular sports fans who are bias about their teams. I use to have conversations with many of my BYU friends and if you ever mentioned something like the level of competition (WAC years) they would freak out.

There are a lot more honor code violations at BYU than people think. I believe the athletes are treated harsher than the general population because they "represent" the university more. However, there has been a double standard when deciding which players go and which stay. I never liked the Honor code and felt as though it was more of a tool to keep students in line than having anything to do with honor. Beside the fact signing a paper really doesn't give a person honor. You either decide to live the standards or not.

I think honor code is just a PR stunt. Mormons are no different than any other humans. I agree that the internet and social media has made it more difficult to hide honor code violations which is a shame really because people forget that these are 18, 19 20 years old kids. They are going to make bad decisions, it is about learning from them. I remember walking in Time Square when the Davies story hit. It was on the ticker strip in Times Square, running over and over.. all I remember is how bad I felt for the kid.

Mormons are no different than any other humans.

I disagree.

I come from a mormon family.

None of them drink or smoke or do drugs or had pre marital sex. They pay tithing, go to the temple, volunteer at various packaging facilities, have no criminal record, very rarely swear, and a million other things that seperate them from most all of the people that i associate with and work with who are not mormon.

i dont know many non mormons wearing garments, paying tithing, reading the book of mormon, or visiting mormon temples for fun.

Of course they are different from others...... they are mormons.

Im sure muslims do lots of things different from other people which makes them different.

Same goes for practicing catholics, buddists, etc etc.

I find it strange how hard people in this thread are trying to lump mormons in with everyone else.

Why is that? Are people threatened by thier differences or something?

I see. When in doubt, blame auto-correct, Obama, or my favorite, missed sarcasm and/or inferences. It's hard to admit you're a ****ing moron (I'm just guessing here, really) but it might just be your time.

Can you imagine how many dimwitted dick farts could have saved themselves the humiliation of looking like complete tools on the WWW's if they would have just taken your advice? It's like bringing a water pistol to a 4-alarm fire.

Remember when this guy sharted all over pkm's Bundy thread? Ya, it's like that.

It's like bringing a water pistol to a 5-alarm chili.

You expect more from badass, no nerve celled, forever frat boy Ute fans wearing Taped Out camo tees, bragging about the Royal Rumble trampoline fight they got into in the sixth grade with the chess club, to not pretend the habanero chilis aren't burning their guts up for the next six days?

It's okay Ute bros, your Toyota Tacomas with non-factory rims and decals will help your *** cream will keep you bawse.

I work with two BYU fans that drive EXACTLY what you describe above... but they attended UofU.. lol.

I have no idea what this is all about, but the raging boner I have is inexplicable.

Fire up the dickfart cigar for promotion day.

Just don't inhale and you'll be fine.
