Video: Noah Vonleh Workout - Top 4 Pick?

Video honestly doesn't show much. For as great as his hands are, they are still only .25" longer than Kanter's, who a lot of you have already given up on. Vonleh is still very raw. I definitel haven't seen enough to consider messing w/ the Kanter, Favors & Gobert trio anymore.

I hope someone in the top 4 takes him, so someone who's a definite upgrade falls to us. If not, I am still higher on A. Gordon, or Smart for us. Smart is a huge upgrade over Trey, and would help us immensely immediately. There is also the chance that Exum is there @5 if ORL takes Smart.

When drafting players as raw as Vonleh you have to ask yourself if you have the resources to develop him. I think our frontcourt is already in project mode. There is a great wing and a great pg with comparable upside available. Both positions we could feasibly have resources to develop. Otherwise, you become the team where potential goes to die, and your assets never reach full value.

I've always said I'll take Randle's "fight" over Vonleh's "potential".

But the way Kanter has been playing (his defensive deficiency vs DL's defense first philosophy) and Favor's limited range, it's very likely the Jazz would feel compel to take Vonleh as he can really stretch the floor with the 3pt shooting. (which to me seems legit)

With a Favors/Vonleh/Kanter/Gobert lineup, we've got length and rebounding, and we could be set for years and years....

I haven't been that impressed with video's I've seen on Vonleh and Smart. Smart's shot looks broke. Vonleh looks a little slow/robotic in his movements. He is a project but I think he will be very good eventually. I am hoping for Gordon, Exum, or one of the top 3 guys to fall.

Many years? Try 3, or 2 depending on when the Jazz want to sign Gobert beyond his rookie contract (eligible after his 3rd year. If they are going to be as good as we want them to be, we'll have to pay them, and we'll also need to develop them all of them are still raw. The Jazz drafting Vonleh or Randle is either short sighted, or admitting they ****ed up by letting Sap and Al go.

We are a basketball team. We need more than bigs. Elite wings are the most important position when you're trying to win titles. Jazz need to put their all into getting some. In today's NbA, pace is another thing that is very important. The Spurs and Heat are some of th fastest in the league, and they run because it's smart. By running, they leave themselves with more time in the shot clock (where shots are made at a higher %), and they get to bypass a lot of really intricate halfcourt defenses. Having nothing but bigs makes you slow. As far as bigs go, the ones we have are faster than most.

People are sour on our bigs because our rotation last year was: Favors, Marvin, Kanter, Evans; so naturally we struggled defensively and w/ boards.

Our rotation next year of Favors, Kanter and Gobert won't have the same problems associated with being undersized.

I firmly believe our bigs should be set, and any additions should come via FA on MLE, or 2nd rders).

We need a defensive PG who can attack the rack and push the pace. Smart meets all these requirements.
Or,
We need a wing w/ elite skills. A. Gordon fits this bill. Both have comparable upside to Vonleh, and more than Randle.

Agreed that Smart isn't a shooter, but when you are the PG, w/ size and athleticism, and the ball in your hands, other teams can't sag off of you. Spacing is fixed w/ Kanter @ the 3. PG's who can't shoot aren't like other positions who can't shoot.

I also hope for the others you listed.

I've been a big supporter of Kanter in the past, but I've really soured on whether he can play in a Championship game the way he defends. I think he would be a great 3rd big coming off the bench giving us scoring punch, but I think we are still looking for the PF for the future on our team.

Dude has David West's size and reach, but has 20 lbs on him, can jump a helluva lot higher, and is way more agile. I think Vonleh makes a solid pro.

Bosh lighting it up in this first Finals game.... could a BIG performance in these series lift Vonleh's draft ranking?

I think it could.

but west gained weight almost every year. west is playing 255lb right now. maybe even 260lb.

i don't think vonleh shouldn't go over 250lb. you don't want to be that big

Kanter, Favors combo will be together going into the season. They aren't trading Kanter. Kanter plays fine on defense next to Favors.
If you play him at Center he struggles. He is a PF not a C.
Jazz will be going with one of the combo guards or trading the pick.

Please don't confuse elite skill with elite athleticism. NOT the same thing. AG does NOT have elite skill at the 3.

The Jazz are committed to playing Favors at center. Can you imagine our defense with two bigs that are 6'10" with 7'4" wingspan. I bet if we sif we stay at 5, Vonleh is our man.

The weight with his quickness and agility is a good sign that he can potentially defend the post as well as the rim and the perimeter. Favors came out about the same weight and has had issues being bullied in the post. I don't want a 4-5 who can't man up down low.

At this point, not even Favors is good enough to defend in the finals.

And you know this from his first season of real minutes, after injury, with a coach who had bad defensive schemes, and lots of other young and other bad defenders around him?

Kanter doesn't know defense. Saying he can't learn it, given his physical tools is premature. Mark Eaton type shot blocker? No. Good defender one day? Why not? He's barely been coached and just turned 22 a week ago. Plemty of upside given 10k hours theory.

AG skills that are considered elite by scouts:

Handles
Court vision
Passing
Offensive boards
Defensive instincts
First step
Wingspan
Vert

The kid has great BBIQ

Reducing him to just an athlete is just pathetic

All those skills you mentioned, he is ELITE at? ELITE?

He has elite handles?

Elite passing? His passing is elite?

Elite court vision?

Wing span is a skill?

I'm genuinely not trying to be a dick but I think we have a different understanding of the word "elite". For example, I think he's pretty good at a lot of those things but do not think he will instantly be one of the top 5 at any of those things you mentioned.

I laughed as well. I think Sexual probably had shooting written there too, but after wrestling with it for a couple minutes decided he better not go quite that far.
