why so many of you giving up on Burke? He is our future PG, period!

All these Exum love threads popping up and some of you thinking Burke is a goner and we need upgrade at PG. Well let me remind you that Burke was All NBA rookie, rookie of the month numerous times, had elite ast/to ratio ( only comparable was C.Paul!), clutch shooting ( how many game winners he made already?) and elite FT shooting as well. All signs are pointing towards him improving and having great career with Jazz.
And yet some of you are ready to throw him under the bus for unproven lanky 6'6 kid from Australia who is poor volume shooter ( or simply said chucker) just because he has long stride and quick first step and length? Some of you probably would want to get rid of J.Stockton after his first year too. You know he was kind of short as well. That C. Paul dude is certainly not that long either....
 
I am very high on Burke. Enjoy watching him play and look forward to seeing him grow and lead this team.

Having said that if a trade comes along that involves Burke and the trade makes Utah better then Burke (or any other player on the team) let me help you pack and call you a taxi to the airport.
 
It's kind of like the situation of Portland when they traded us Williams because they had just drafted a young, but undersized point guard. He ended up not working out and the missed Williams and cp3.

for those who to lazy to click link I will throw few numbers:

12.8 pts, vs 6.8 pts, 5.7 ast, vs 3.3, .330 3 pt shooting vs .240, 3 ASt/TO ratio vs 1.8.

Sure sounds like very similar
 
Rookie accolades are worthless, especially in a historically bad draft.

Removing those, when one of your best noted attributes is free throw shooting, then you may not be so great.

Burke seems to have a low ceiling, high floor projection. Solid player who is definitely valuable on a winning team, just not the focal point.
 
So the fact that he takes care of the ball at ELITE level is nothing to be excited about?

lol, so lets ignore, PER, 3 pt shooting and rebounding as well. How about we take a look at clutch stats?
 
because people like the newest flavors of coffee at Starbucks. Also, people are quick to give up on rookies. I was impressed with Trey, and thought he had a VERY good rookie season for
such a crappy team year. It's like some fans expect rookies to be flawless now. He showed enough to me to give me hope he is our PG of the future.

Rebounding? The stat where Trey Burke got one more rebound every 72 minutes? And that's relevant for a point guard?

I'd say Burke resembles more Derek Fisher than Telfair. But even then, Fisher got to the line a lot his rookie year.

Let's not ignore PER. Not as bad as Telfair, but below average. 3 pt shooting. Not as bad as Telfair but below league average. Telfair didn't shoot it much from deep anyway, since he knew he was bad.

So where's the Ferrari?
 
Burke has a very low ceiling. So low that even he hasto duck.

Two strength's that people cite all the time are 1. His AST to To rate, and his FT %.

For AST to To, we don't really know what his NBA #'s are, since Hayward ran the offense for most of the year. Also, isn't shooting 38 FG% and having the second highest FGAs on team wasting posessions? Seems like his **** shooting and shot selection should be counting as turnovers.

As for FT's, he never went to the line. If he can't get there, this stat is worthless.



His lack of defensive potential, super, super, super, slow pace, and inability to attack the rim, are huge detriments to this team.

Can he improve? Sure. But he is close to 22, has 2 yrs of college experience, and has been coached his entire life. Factor his history w/ his body and lack of athleticism, and it doesn't look bright. We don't need a star at every position, but we do need a star, and he is certainly lead canidate to be the sacrificial lamb.
