-The Jazz have $25 million in cap space that they need to use or they forfeit it for no reason.
-The Jazz aren't luring any high-level players to a traditional free agency dead-zone to a team that just won 26 games. It's just not happening.
-The Jazz effectively lose nothing and gain an extremely valuable asset. The "$10 million" is gone either way.

I'd take Nash + #7. Lakers cannot get both Lebron and Melo, unless they trade Kobe too. I don't think Lebron would want to help Kobe win more championships. They are both chasing Jordan, why would he want to help Kobe get #6 to tie Jordan?

Look if it was just Nash and #7 for cap space the Jazz and any other team with cap space would take it and hope that the paperwork is finished before the Lakers can think again.

It would take Burke or Kanter plus another pick to get this done. The Kings have an offer for #8 that consists of a young good veteran and two later first rounders (my guess is either Chicago or Phx is the partner)... the Lakers can do much better than a Steve Nash salary dump.
