Interesting Lakers trade scenario

Okay, so maybe you don't know how things work.

-The Jazz have $25 million in cap space that they need to use or they forfeit it for no reason.
-The Jazz aren't luring any high-level players to a traditional free agency dead-zone to a team that just won 26 games. It's just not happening.
-The Jazz effectively lose nothing and gain an extremely valuable asset. The "$10 million" is gone either way.

Agree, but you forgot to mention to huge boobs that Lowry is going to get around $12M per year over 4 years.

Look if it was just Nash and #7 for cap space the Jazz and any other team with cap space would take it and hope that the paperwork is finished before the Lakers can think again.

It would take Burke or Kanter plus another pick to get this done. The Kings have an offer for #8 that consists of a young good veteran and two later first rounders (my guess is either Chicago or Phx is the partner)... the Lakers can do much better than a Steve Nash salary dump.

Okay guy. There is only 1 way spend cap space because macho tough guy overvalues draft pick. You've made ur point, it is stupid, moving on now.

I'm not that high on Kanter... I don't care what number he was drafted at.

You can't make a point in ignorance, so you haven't made yours. Thought you could use the help from Because Macho Tough Guy. Sorry, "guy".

What else needs to be considered? I mean, why the **** would you even remotely help the lakers?

Source?

It wouldn't help the lakers. They lose their 7th pick and still don't get LBJ. Long Story short we'd be giving them the rope to hang themselves with.

I'd absolutely do that trade. Say we lose Favors, #5 and the #23 (or next year's protected 1st round pick) in a trade with Cleveland, at least we still have another top ten pick to build around Wiggins.

LA wants LeBron and Melo and are looking to deal the #7 pick along with Steve Nash's expiring $10M deal to free up cap space to offer them each $16M.

On one hand, helping the Lakers get LeBron makes me nauseous. On the other hand, I don't see him taking his talents to Staples Center (a la the house that Kobe built).

For a chance at #7 and additional ammo to move up for Wiggins or Jabari, I am intrigued by this possibility. I wonder if Mitch and DL have traded any phone calls.

Lebron and Melo would fight. And I would love it.

This is a good point. Of all the teams to actually help facilitate a move, the Lakers are last on my list. Overall, I think the Jazz should always make the best move for themselves regardless of what the consequences for their trade partner might be. . . but I just can't get on board with being the team to help LeBron James go to the Lakers.

It's probably moot, because I don't think the Lakers are a desire able team for win-now free agents. I can see them going hard for a 2nd tier free agent after they miss out on the big 3. I think they'll make a run at Bosh to be honest.

You can't worry about helping the Lakers... If we didn't take the deal someone would, its just that we would no longer be the beneficiaries.

Normally, I would agree with you. . . but let's be realistic here. If DL facilitates a trade with the Lakers for LeBron and they win a championship, there's very little chance that he lasts long in Utah. No matter how good that #7 pick becomes, most fans will never get over that. It would be UGLI.

Hell, if anything, the Jazz should go balls out to chase LeBron for themselves. While there's a high likelihood that he'd laugh, I'd even be happy with his camp using the Jazz as leverage for whoever signs him. For that matter, they should be chasing Melo as well. Can't dispel the negative attitude towards the place if they never try. The Jazz should go after every legit Max guy that hits the open market.

Fans would appreciate that a lot more (even destined to fail) than facilitating the Lakers.

Didn't agree with you the first time....

And still don't!!!

Let's be realistic why would bron leave Miami for a team in worse shape by almost any measure? Why not just team up with melo elsewhere? I see bron Joining at leasdt 10 teams before the lakers

I agree, but it's still hard to open that door even a crack. I'm not saying that I wouldn't consider it, or even do the deal if it came to fruition. . . but I wouldn't pursue it that hard either. I do like Nash for a year and then off the books. He'd be a great mentor to a guy like Burke.

DL will be judged based on his success building our team... And Lebron is never coming here to play for the jazz. If we don't take the deal someone would and we would miss out. No one in Memphis is complaining about the two championships they gave the lakers... They are just glad they have Marc gasol.

Pretty much the whole thing!!!

You make your team better, I don't care if it helps the Lakers.... They are the Lakers they won't stay down long mine as well get something out of it!!!
Fair point. I'm not in love with the idea of a deal with the Lakers, but I don't hate it either. If it was any other team, I'd probably be all for it. I do think that the Jazz need to maximize their cap space to get the best possible assets that they can. Cap space alone is a valuable asset if used correctly. This summer provides them with a chance to really make something happen.
