What's new

The official unfortunate keepings of the 5th pick.

Don't get me wrong, the 5th pick is good but we should be offering just about anyone to get the number 1 and selecting wiggins. Even with the 5th and a new coach, I can't really see us being that much greater (especially if we let gordo walk).

I think Gordon at #5 combined with Snyder and current players progressing will make us better.

I think it will make us better as well. But better long term than some form of a Favors for Wiggins deal? Nope.

Yep, I'm over it. Ready to draft Gordon and keep our assets. I'm not convinced he won't be one of the best 3 in the draft when all is said and done. I would like to add one more pick a little earlier than 23rd. Now if Orlando Selects Gordon leaving us a choice between a broken Embiid and Vonleh I will likely rage quit the draft.

If A-God is as dedicated as he seems, his shot will improve. If his shot improves, he will be better than Wiggins. Book it.

Thank you for articulating what I've been thinking. Even Wiggins offense is said to be in need of improvement. I don't know if he'll ever get the drive Gordon already possesses.

I hope they get Gordon. He's special. Oozes athleticism and confidence. Plays defense. Genuinely seems to want to be here. And will work his *** off to be the best player he can be.

I see him as being an Aaron Rodgers type that plays with a chip on his shoulder, even if it's more imagined than real.

I think he's going to go out there and work to prove all the prognosticators flat out wrong. He desperately wants to be the best. You can't teach that. You can't bottle it up and sell it in a fat contract. You can't pull it out of thin air. That drive with his type of athleticism is a rare and valuable thing. If he lives up to his potential, he's a top 3 player (if not the top player) from this draft.

Agree, but there's a point at which the price becomes just too high. I think Favors, the #5 and their choice of Burks OR the #23 OR a protected pick is actually very high, but would do it. Go back to 2005 when there were a clear top-4. Bogut was viewed as a franchise center. Marvin had "potential" oozing out of every pore. Deron and CP3 were franchise PG's. So what did Utah give up to move from #6 to #3 (i.e. from drafting a 2nd-tier player to the "perennial all-star/franchise player" territory)? Their #6, the #27 and a future 1st. The offer to Cleveland is better than that: the #5, #23, Favors (top-10 value) AND an additional player or pick. Cleveland is posturing. Neither the deals with Afflalo nor Young are better than what Utah has offered. If they think they can get LBJ, they need a starter at the #5. If they don't, they take Wiggins and plug him in at the wing. But good luck with an aging Varejao or re-signing Matador Hawes. Best bet at that point would be to help Houston get Lebron or Carmelo by trading for Asik.

We're picking Gordon at #5. With his secret second interview and DL's continued 'no comments' on second interviews, I'm convinced that the team has settled on him at #5.

I think they'd like to move up, but not at the price Cleveland is asking.

I'm comfortable with Exum or Vonleh if one of them slips to 5. If Philly or Milwaukee takes Exum, then Smart might go #4 to Orlando, leaving Vonleh at 5. If we take Aaron Gordon, I'll try to talk myself into being excited, but I think he's a step down--basically a rich man's Shane Battier. I'd still take Randle ahead of Gordon, even if that means trading Kanter for another asset.

good post.

people love to talk about his athleticism, which is great, but to me the best things about him are his intangibles.

attitude, drive, passion, heart, hustle, coachable, seems fine being in utah, good teammate.

those are what i like best about him

I agree with this. FWIW, if Philly is offering 3, 10 and Thad Young, that's noticeably better than Orlando's offer of 4, 12 and Afflalo. The fact that the Cavs are crowing to the press about Orlando's offer makes it look like posturing to me. They're obviously trying to create a bidding war. Utah may give in at the last minute, but I hope they offer 23 rather than Burks.
