Free Agent Rumors Thread

Suck this year. Add Okafor. Sign free agents next offseason.

Exum and Okafor lead the Jazz to uber titles.

I See this happening... Jazz are going to improve next year but not by much, we will have a lot of assets to throw at whoever gets the top pick next year!!!

Basically, we don't need to tank but we also don't need to waste valuable minutes or salary cap space on mediocre vets just to help us win a few extra games.

I agree but for some reason the Jazz organization just loves to bring in average vets every year. What is the purpose to bring in guys to take minutes away from our young guys. I thought you hired a new coaching staff to develop players. So are we going to sit Hood and Exum so we can re-sign Jefferson and Williams? I don't get it.

The thing is the Jazz will have to be absolutely a bottom tier team to land Okafor, or hit a less than 1% chance. I dont think they're capable of being that bad without injuries.

The contract year bump for Enes will especially help this team, same with Alec (I foresee a legit 6th man of the year campaign). I'm a believer in the 2 rookies, I had Rodney Hood rated slightly above Stauskas and Zach LaVine, at the 11th best player on this draft.

I had the Jazz pegged in the mid 20's for wins, this year i have a hard time seeing the Jazz winning below 30.

I have Okafor rated #1, Karl Towns isnt that far off though, I actually prefer Towns skillset with what we already have here.

Stanley Johnson at SF is the player that solves the most 'problems' for the Jazz though, I'm sure of this.

It might just be me. I'm hoping Hayward gets 50 mil and walks to PHX and the Jazz sign Ariza as his replacement.

Free Agency has begun!! Some rumors to get you started. Appears Jazz are focusing on small forward.

Tony Jones: Jazz and RFA Gordon Hayward have talked tonight, league source tells The Salt Lake Tribune. Both sides are expected to continue talks Tue.

Tony Jones: Second league source tells The Tribune tonight that Marvin Williams loves Utah and really wants to be with the Jazz.

Jody Genessy: Can confirm that the Utah Jazz plan to make a contract offer to restricted free agent Gordon Hayward in the next couple of days. Twitter @DJJazzyJody

Tony Jones: can confirm Jazz interest in free agent small forward Trevor Ariza....perfect 3 and D type for Utah and new system

Tony Jones: league source says that Lakers power forward Ryan Kelly is one name the Jazz could be interested in as FA wears on Twitter @Tjonessltrib

Looks like Utah might go after both.

Ariza was my favorite player on the Knicks when he was a rookie, so i'm a bit biased, he was awesome after Allan Houston got injured.

He had everyone pretty well convinced his 1st year, as a 19 year old 2nd round rookie that everyone said left college too early.

I believe the Jazz need to absorb some contracts to match the minimum salary cap. Hopefully this won't be done by bringing in a veteran FA that will only steal the minutes of young players.

Man, this is a very busy off-season for DL. First the coach, then the craziest draft, now resigning Hayward and Marvin.. and looking for valuable assets in the FA market. And he may also struck a deal with another team given the salary cap flexibility.

The Jazz should first focus on re-signing Hayward or trying to sign Chandler Parsons if possible (I don't think they can afford to do both). They should then focus on extending Burks and Kanter, which will affect their numbers after the coming season. As I've said in a previous post, I think they both are on the verge of busting out, what with a new development-minded coach and all, and that their value is as low right now as it's going to be.

Once they know where they are salary-wise this year and next, they should THEN turn their attention to other free agents. Lock up the core, and then go from there. I have a feeling they won't do things in that order though.

It seemed like a good day. The sun came up, a cool breeze stirred the curtains, the robins outside chirped their approval of this fine day.

Then I read Jazz FA targets: Richard Jefferson.

Stupid birds.

Tweet from David lock about 30 minutes before free agency started

"Jazz fans two shooters to keep an eye on Jodie Meeks and Anthony Morrow. Also, Richard Jefferson. Jazz need vet wing who can shoot"

We will learn what the Jazz plan to do next year (win or tank) depending on who they sign.

So what we need to ask ourselves is tanking one more year the right call?

Michael Lee: Trevor Booker is an unrestricted free agent & has attracted interest from several teams (MIA, MIN, UTA, BKN, NYK, ORL & WAS), sources say

Adrian Wojnarowski: Two teams planning to make offers to their own restricted free agents within next day or two: Jazz (Gordon Hayward) and Suns (Eric Bledsoe)

I like PJ Tucker a lot as a Jazz man. I don't see the Suns letting him go unless they spend a lot elsewhere.

Get Ariza, it kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

Otto Porter gets to become the GOAT in Washington

Jazz get a great player.

The Jazz already have Ryan Kelly on their roster and his name is Erik Murphy. They are roughly about the same size and had about the same stats in college. Kelly was drafted one spot ahead of Murphy in the 2nd round in 2013.

Why does everyone want Ariza... He is a contract year guy. I think I'd rather have Jefferson back for a one-year minimum deal than sign Ariza to what he will command. Ariza will get overpaid and be basically untradeable by January.
