Free Agent Rumors Thread

I thought the idea was to play our young guys. How is bringing in vets (who are average) going to help develop the players. I want the Jazz to bring back Hayward at the right price and if he wants a MAX deal or a deal way out of whack then sign Ariza and call it a day. Play the young guys, we have already gotten rid of average vets so we could clear the roster and develop the young guys. Do not skip this step or we will be back fighting for the eight seed for a decade again.

Bit of an overstatement regarding the blind part... dribbling and creating offense are kind of important in basketball. Also Burks at 22 scores more per minute and gets more assists per minute and gets to the line twice as much as Ariza.

What were Ariza's numbers when he was 22...

9 pts 4 rebs and 2 assists in 25 minutes per game. Shooting 46% 32% and 71%.

Compare to Burks...

14 pts., 3 rebs, and 3 assists in 28 minutes per game. Shooting 46%, 35%, and 75%

I'm sure he'll tear the league up next year when he doesn't have Wall to spoon feed him. Ariza had a career year in a contract year and will likely decline when he is not paired with someone that can get him his corner 3s.

At very least they are similar in production with Burks having waaaaaay more upside.
Its no use bro.
Cy grossly undervalues burks...... and if you know cy then you know that once he gets an opinion he holds to that opinion forever

Burks is not more than just a pretty good player, but if ppl's point is that they'd rather have Burks than Ariza, ummmmm...yeah, duh.

I believe the Jazz need to absorb some contracts to match the minimum salary cap. Hopefully this won't be done by bringing in a veteran FA that will only steal the minutes of young players.
You don't have to do this. There is a good chance they will but it is not a required salary floor. Instead they just have to split the difference with their players or something like that. GVC knows the details but essentially you do not have to sign players to the floor.

Good to know... I'll stop banging my head against the wall. I just don't like it when guys say "if you don't have the same opinion as me you are blind, stupid, ugly, impotent, fat, etc.."

The Jazz should first focus on re-signing Hayward or trying to sign Chandler Parsons if possible (I don't think they can afford to do both). They should then focus on extending Burks and Kanter, which will affect their numbers after the coming season. As I've said in a previous post, I think they both are on the verge of busting out, what with a new development-minded coach and all, and that their value is as low right now as it's going to be.

Once they know where they are salary-wise this year and next, they should THEN turn their attention to other free agents. Lock up the core, and then go from there. I have a feeling they won't do things in that order though.
If you do all of that before you sign new players then you can't sign more players. Once you extend them their salaries count. You can sign them over the cap after you sign new guys. At least I think that's the way it works.

Don't think Wizards let Ariza walk.
They had no draft picks at all this time.
They have to keep Ariza and look for more talent.

Any rumors on Parsons? He's the guy I would want if we don't sign Hayward. I'm meh on Ariza. Good player but a little on the old side to fit with our team going forward.

True, there's no penalty, but if you have to shell out the $ regardless then you might as well hit the floor and put that additional money spent to good use (e.g. taking $23M in dead weight from the Warriors to snag two additional first round picks).

If we can take on an expiring contract in the Melo/Lebron sweepstakes and get an additional first rounder to boot, I'm all for it.

Washington just signed Gortat to a sixty million dollar contract. So maybe they don't have as much money as you think. Personally I think Gortat is overpaid. He put up 13.9 pts and 9.5 rebounds. Those are similar numbers to Favors and Favors is young and better in my opinion.

I only want Ariza if Hayward wants a max or near max deal. I take Ariza at eight million a year over 14+ for Hayward.

I would rather have Parson's too but the Jazz will have more competition for him. Mavs are interested, Lakers, Rockets to name a few.

This is great news.
