What's new

Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

We seriously can't do this. What if one or two of our guys actually turned into legit studs that we couldn't pay because of this? This contract is UNTRADEABLE and this is a league where Biedrins can be traded. Hell even the Rockets could get rid of Lin if they had too. This would be a disaster.

Good for Hayward, I guess. I think the jazz absolutely should NOT match, if the reports are true, but I think they will match anyway.

What if Hayward turns into a legit stud?

We can still pay Kanter or Burks if we really want to. It's not like this means they are off the team (though we should try to trade Burks).

The thing is too if the jazz match then I doubt Burks or Kanter would sign contracts. They'll just assume they can play out the year and get more money and it will suck if they turn out to be better than hayward.

Thats exactly why the Jazz wont match, a move like this flies directly in the face of the strategy of rebuilding thru draft picks.

This sets a terrible precedent for the other players, Favors signed in and wanted to keep the core together.

Hayward on the other hand is trying to hold the salary cap hostage over a few million bucks, when hes the oldest of 8 recent 1st round picks (most of whom look promising and worthy of respectable 2nd contracts). Why not pay the players who want to be here? theres not some huge talent gap and theres stop-gap players to be found, and enough young depth on the roster where we can target a SF in the draft next year nomatter what.

Hayward obviously dosent want to be here, the Trade Kicker and Player Option make that obvious.

The problem will be signing Exum once it's his turn if we also give big contracts to Burks and Kanter. Would suck to no be able to sign a star player.

It would have at least been nice to have played all the young five guys together and seen what we had before committing big money to them.

It means we have to root for Kanter and Burks to not be as good as they could be, because we could never pay them if they did. IDK why you say that about Burks. I'd be more happy with this signing if we could also lock Alec up for around $8 mil per. Of course that will never happen now.

Hayward contract is 4 years long (with the 4 year being a player option).

No one is going to give Burks a big contract. 1 dimensional, 1 side of teh floor player.

Because Burks is the easiest player to replace on the team. There are a lot of scorers in the NBA.

@WojYahooNBA: Charlotte has agreed to a 4-year, $63M maximum offer sheet with Utah RFA Gordon Hayward, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

And there it is.

They are insane to match it, even if it doesn't hurt their flexibility.

There is no way this guy has earned $15.75 million a year. No way.

Unfortunately I think they will sign. That's a shame if they lock him up for that much.

Nah man he's homegrown. MAX.

Jazz didn't give Hayward a max contract, the Hornets did.

No one is going to offer Burks more than 8 million a year.

Kanter might be a different story. He could easily get a max offer if he performs this year.

By this you mean if he terribly underperforms and disappoints everyone, right?

I wouldn't say Hayward terribly underperformed. He shot poorly from deep and went through the motions on a team going through the motions.

He showed his skillset, which is why teams like him so much. Teams are enamored if he can bring that skillset, and bring back his sharpshooting, for a total package.
